What function do the 2 black metal removable shields/covers over the grill in the 430’s engine bay (above the valves) perform? Wouldn’t the engine bay stay cooler if they were removed? I am assuming if you track the car you would remove them. Should I remove them if I make engine exhaust mods?

Well, the left one hides some ugly hoses that I didn't see how we could reroute them. Right cover could be removed without issue. That'd be the only unsightly consequence. And yes, I also wondered why that space wasn't occupied by a mostly open grille, like the ones next to the engine glass. And just a solid piece to cover those hoses. If you try it, please post pics :). It's only 2 little screws behind each.

Yes, you will slightly see the 2 hoses on the left side if the shields are removed. It just looks like they were designed to be removed. I must have read a 100 threads about exhaust mods and excessive engine bay heat but, no mention of the removal of these shields. Makes you wonder!
    Thanks.

Don´t wonder. This is the first mod everyone has done who is afraid of too much heat. All cars I have seen here is without these panels.

Ferrari must have designed and installed these shields for some reason, maybe they create high and low pressure areas to help evacuate heat at certain speeds or conditions.

I agree with you. Car manufactors don´t do something they don´t get cred for. One way or the other. I thought of this also, but decided it was just so people should not see the ugly standard muffler. Right or wrong - don´t know. Mine are gone a long time ago and now I am looking inte some heat evacuating fans.

Great posts. I think all the shields do is cover the view of the muffler. I don't believe there is any real science in their design... they are too easy to remove. I'm taking mine off!
    Thanks,

I am talking to a plating company about building a gold foil heat shield that would go between the airbox and muffler. I was thinking about removing these two black shields in the back so you can just get just a peek of gold foil from the rear. Will let everyone know how the project goes.

Very wrong what's written above, these panels have nothing cosmetic ;) You remove them, you'll increase the engine bay heat, yeh yeh ! I'm just coming out of hours of wind tunnel testing on my F430 grace to the impressive equipment of Capristo in Germany. These panels do create a vacuum which is sucking in fresh air from the rear grill. The engine bay is a brilliant piece of air circulation engineering which has been very carefully studied by several specialists providing consulting services to Ferrari in such matter. The rear panels are part of this by reflexing the incoming air from the upper vents which creates a vacuum behind them. This vacuum allows fresh air to come in from the rear grill. If you remove them, don't think that the hot air will go out through the rear grill, it won't. I suggest you to test it out with and without them. Add a remote temp sensor in the engine bay and a air debit meter. You'll see a huge difference ;)

We've been validating many things these last 2 days using sophisticated equipments and you would be surprised how wrong we can be ;) I'll reveal much more in the upcoming days with real facts and real figures having done many different tests. E.g. : some Scuderia owners gonna be very disappointed when I will prove here by how much a F430 has more HP and torque in the range of 3500-5000 rpm !!! I'll be back ;)

Oh ****. Not you again. Friday night. Scrimps and white wine. Lovely evening and the boat is ready for a trip tomorrow.
Ok - if thats the way you want it - I´ll go down and put the panels back at once.

I can understand what you say about building up vacum - but these panels will also stop the heat evacuate from engine bay after stop. This means we need some clever fans then.
I recorded 80 deg C - on outside surface - one inch down from the edge of the engine bay window. 2 minutes after stop. F1 pump reading max 55deg C. Not that much.

I think I am sober enough to tighten 2x2 screws and have the panels back again.
    Thanks.

Did you see this guy Martin - who does´nt answere my mails?

    all the best

    Anders

LOL LOL, I don't want to spoil your pleasant evening Anders :D Hope you'll manage the screws LOL.

Yes, I spend a lot time with Martin who is a very nice person, truly. I even spoke about you and he knows you very well. Maybe it's my fault as I have been bombarding them with all my emails these last weeks and for sure, during these days, the entire team was dedicated to me ;) So poor Martin, he must now have tons of mails to answer ;)

Enjoy the scrimps and wine :) I enjoy the good German/Italian food here ;)

    SfefVan,

May I ask, if the rear cover panels (black ) beside to the rear silver horse. Can this be removed? I have removed them and have lots of hot air escaped (only feel by hands not with any equipments.)

I noticed the scuderia has no such cover up plates.

I seriously would leave them as we have tested out their efficience in a wind tunnel blowing wind at 250kmh. The Scud has a different air circulation than the F430.
