Has anyone had to replace their exhaust manifolds? (430)
I know of a couple that have gone thru FOW and I know there are 2 up at Competizione and Sports Cars in Maryland. Do a search there was a recent thread on the whole subject. If your car is still under warranty, no problems. Robert
Just had my 2005 with 12K in for annual service and the beginnings of cracks were detected. Ferrari now has a new supplier with a new design. The warranty was about to expire, so I was actually glad they were found. Check out the recent thread on 360 manifolds cracking for moer info. Dave
BS!..... As long as you haven't replaced anything (no Tubi's etc to open a can of worms to which Rifledriver referred in the other thread) the manifolds are very definitely part of the "emissions system", and federal law mandates an 8 (?) year warranty on said parts. Now, I'm sure FNA doesn't exactly shout that from the rooftops, but I'm about 99% sure I'm correct....... Cheers, Ian
I read my warranty booklet carefully as well as the EPA regs on this issue. The EPA requires manufacturers to warranty the following for 8 years/80K: Cats, ECU's, and diagnostic computers. Only two years is required for everything else by the EPA. I understand some states have more strict requirements, but Colorado is not one of them. Dave
Here it is from their website http://www.epa.gov/omswww/consumer/warr95fs.txt United States Air and Radiation EPA420-F-96-020 Environmental Protection March 1996 Agency Office of Mobile Sources --------------------------------------------------------------------- EPA Environmental Fact Sheet --------------------------------------------------------------------- EMISSIONS WARRANTIES FOR 1995 AND NEWER CARS & TRUCKS Federally required emission control warranties protect you, the vehicle owner, from the cost of repairs for certain emission related failures that result from manufacturer defects in materials and workmanship or that cause your vehicle to exceed federal emission standards. Manufacturers have been required by federal law to provide emission control coverage for vehicles since 1972. There are two federal emission control warranties discussed in this fact sheet: (A) "Performance Warranty" and (B) "Design and Defect Warranty". This fact sheet explains each warranty in detail, provides you with a list of some of the parts covered under these warranties, explains the procedures for making an emissions warranty claim, and answers some of the most commonly asked questions about emissions warranties. Finally, we will give you some tips on how to prevent future emission-related failures and maintain the longevity of your vehicle's engine. A. PERFORMANCE WARRANTY The Performance Warranty covers repairs which are required during the first 2 years or 24,000 miles of vehicle use because the vehicle failed an emission test. Specified major emission control components are covered for the first 8 years or 80,000 miles. If you are a resident of an area with an Inspection and Maintenance (I/M) program that meets federal guidelines, you are eligible for this warranty protection provided that: * Your car or light-duty truck fails an approved emissions test; and * Your vehicle is less than 2 years old and has less than 24,000 miles (up to 8 years/80,000 miles for certain components); and * Your state or local government requires that you repair the vehicle; and * The test failure does not result from misuse of the vehicle or a failure to follow the manufacturers' written maintenance instructions; and * You present the vehicle to a warranty-authorized manufacturer representative, along with evidence of the emission test failure, during the warranty period. During the first 2 years/24,000 miles, the Performance Warranty covers any repair or adjustment which is necessary to make your vehicle pass an approved, locally-required emission test and as long as your vehicle has not exceeded the warranty time or mileage limitations and has been properly maintained according to the manufacturer's specifications.
A few pages further they specify which parts fall into which categories. The 8/80 category includes ECU's OBD's and CATS. Everything else is 2/24. Dave
Right outside exhaust tip of my '05 (2,000 miles) broke off and during repair dealer found cracked exhaust headers. All was replaced under warranty. Also there is a long track record of these particular issues and FNA is very reasonable when it comes to these issues.
During a regular service visit, my dealer detected checking on heat shields and found failing exhaust manifolds. Both were replaced per bulletin 1661 under warranty.
i hear that FNA switched vendors on 08 models due to the ongoing problems, hope the new production manifolds put a end to this issue once and for all
I can't believe this is also happening on the California! And how knows, maybe also on the Italia soon? Before I bought my first Ferrari, I've never heard or experienced any issues with exhaust manifolds even with lots of miles on the cars. Worst of all, you guys in the US are covered with a 8 year emission warranty which isn't the case at all here in Europe. So this makes it a real issue...Fortunately, some aftermarket manifacturers have been able to definitely resolve this problem and improving at the same time the exhaust flow. Capristo is on my TOP 1 list as I know how these guys work and how the research is done.
My vote goes to Capristo too. Top notch quality if you have the budget. I'm eyeing on the sports cats now.
Yep - mine were replaced this week on my new (to me) 430. Covered fully under 8/80 warranty, as previously mentioned. The person I bought the 430 from has a 430 Coupe (mine is a spider) and his were failing too. Also repaired for free. Have someone look at them before the 8/80 expiration!!! Mark
Hey gang, does anybody have a picture of the typical failing area? Just to know where to inspect them. Thx.
