I have recently purchased a 2006 F1 430 Spider with 2200 miles from Contenintal Ferrari in Chicago. I am in Sprinfield mO with the closesst dealer in St Louis 225 miles East. The car is stuck in 1st gear and of course will not start .It happen a week ago the first day with the car. The wrecker driver did not want to wench it on a flat bed from the resturant and said "Let me have your key for a moment" he kept rapily popping the paddles and it came out to N and started. I code glitch and was corrected. This time its at home in the garage but the same thing. Stuck in first. I do not want to try getting it out as who know when it will do it again . Would it not be best to leave it locked itn 1st and have it trucked to a dealer? HOw would one get it on a truck with it locked in first. ? Systems check reads OK. It is under warranty. (Late delivery 12/06) I guess its not my problem directly as to fixing it but has anyone heard of similar problems with F1 in 430 's Pre edit shows rookie not subscribed ,excuse me I am paid up for silver level
but no one is ever there.
    Tks,

I have one suggestion and one question

Will it shift up to second ?

Have you tried a power off reset ?

Tks, for the reply . No it wil not go up or down or in reverse. Ican hear the pump run when I open the door. I do not know what a power off reset is??
Since this has happen twice in a week I really do not want it to go to N until I can have it fixed otherwise if it is trucker to a shop and working normally they may not be able to get it to happen while in the shop. I get it back and you can be shure it will happen in the middle of no where, thus would it not be better to have it picked up as is ?

    Tks,

    Dallas

"power off reset" = battery master switch - possibly page 113 of your handbook

I should add that this car was parked for some time at the dealership with the power off.
I had to put the code in for the radio when I received at in Spfd. by truck. If it did not recapture the codes it would not have started to begin with right ? wrong?

    tks,

    Dallas

Happened to my 360 one time at a show. At the suggestion of another board member, who was also at the show, I depressed the brake pedal all the way to the floor board. As hard as I could press down and low and behold, out of 1st she came and started right up.

Hope it works for you, give it a try.

It did not happen again ? I would think that would indicate a pedal switch adjustment ?
Probably not that simple to fix . Since mine is under warranty I should just let them ship it to St Louis a determine the cause while still in warranty.

    Dallas,

I was parked on a slight grade and I am not sure that didn't cause part of the problem. None the less, I have heard of others with similar issue and they resolved the problem by doing the same procedure.

Sorry it didn't work for you.

No sorry, I am still in the lab office ,I have not tried it yet . I will when I get home . I appreciate your input. If it will work that would make loading it on a truck for shipment to the dealer in St Louis. They said the switch is adjustabe ,possibly a simple fix ,possibly not.

    tks,

    Dallas

Yea it worked like a charm . Thanks for the suggestion. and to all who replied.Interesting that the service depts of both Chicago and St Louis were not aware of of this possible solution. I am curious E60M5 did you later adjust the switch ? to eliminate the problem ?

    tks,

    Dallas

I know this is an old post, but man, did this ever same me yesterday! It was 6pm, and I was parked by a local Mercedes dealer looking at cars. I get back in the F430, and the first thing I notice is the F1 pump just blips, without the whine of priming when you open the door. Turn key.. checks ok... it is stuck in 1st, will not go to neutral, and won't start.. tried a few times , still no start. Next step I disconnected the battery, and tried again. Still no go... I checked all the fuses and they looked good. At this point I'm hoping its a relay, and not an F1 problem, and I am thinking of who to call to get towed 50 miles away to the Ferrari dealer. At the same time in thinking of how this thing will get pulled out of where it is stuck in 1st!... Its 20 min into this fiasco I start to search Ferrarichat where I come to this post!!! So I flick the paddles around like described and ta-da!.. its in Neutral, and started just fine :) This problem has not occurred again. The only thing i can think of that went wrong is my 15 year old was sitting in the diver seat playing with the controls. I don't know if having the shift paddles moved around with the car off could do this. He was terrified however nonetheless when the car was not starting , lol ..

THANK YOU for this post :) .. saved me a Friday night and the $ and hassle of getting it to a mechanic.

Necro-Thread, but wanted to highlight this answer.
After redoing my Brakes & adding a Kline Exhaust & Cats, my Battery had become low, but recharging didn't solve my problem.
My F430 would not go into Neutral, would not Start. I got Check OK, etc.

Pressing the Brake Down Hard then boom. All was good.
Thanks for the answer. That's the great thing here on FChat, now if Google could've found this answer 800 search tries earlier... AI is technically 65% Artificial Idiot, cause only a couple of the Programmers are usually "The Guy" (or Gal)
