Yes, there is board cameras with higher resolution than 1080P.
Higher resolution = more bandwidth = more space required to record.
Maybe you could find a mobile size NVR for 12v, with an 240Gb SSD or similar, that supports standard Onvif network cameras.
Most board cameras do support Onvif, but their firmware are often quite full of bugs and not stable over time.
Have tested several network cameras from China / Taiwan that claims to be 100% Onvif compatible, but their not...

And Blackvue got it's 4K model DR900S front camera, but rear camera is still 1080P.
