Thank you for proving my point.

Scud lovers think 458 owners are fat and lazy.

458 owners think Scud owners are just fine and should go enjoy themselves on a track.

If I listened to your argument, I should go out and buy a 3 year old Prius to drive on US streets.

This is the same silly argument about coupes and convertibles. Why does one person have to win? The only person that matters is the guy enjoying whatever car he bought.

I buy a sports car for the way it makes me feel when I drive it. I could care less if I go 0.1 second faster in one car or another around a track. I don't say those that do are silly but let's face it, there's a lot better and cheaper track cars on the market than a Scud or a 458. The only difference is that you can't sew on the Prancing Horse logo on your overalls.

You want a real race car feel to go on the track? Here's a secret. Sell the 458 and buy this and save a whole lot of money.

    Summary:
Scud has more feel than 458 and is more visceral.
CS has more feel than Scud and is most visceral.
All three sound great, but different.
458 and CS way better looking than Scud; Scud aggressive but not pretty, similar flaws visually as 430.
458 fastest and most usable/enjoyable in the greatest variety of situations.
Though the 458 is least visceral, it is still a blast to drive hard...suspect many who criticize the 458 have not driven it very hard.
Scud probably the best of the 3 for track use, but I stand by my previous statement that the GT3/RS is better still - I've had two of them and they were both rock solid...minimal maintenance compared with any Ferrari.
458 better street car than track, too expensive for regular track use anyway (IMO).
GT3 and 458 in one garage is a nice combo, one for track, other for steet.

Exactly. But after 8 pages, these teenagers still don't hear this point. It's like trying to use reason with children.

wow.. Why too expensive? Buying price you mean? Or maintenance with track use? (bearings etc.)

I love both cars. Scud is more limited edition l guess. 458 I find better looking. I'd track both; the 458 has rubber bushers, which you notice a bit. But with some Michelin PSS tires it'll go like stink... Evo magazine claims it's faster than the Scud. The truth is they're cars for different audiences. To me, they're both great.

The 458 is the way to go, no question. Much more versatile automobile. The performance of the 458 isn't that far off the Scud and it's so much more car!

MingMing my friend, glad you feel better about your 458. It was only 3 days ago (post on 4.16.2012) you were quoted as saying your 458 is not good.

But driving at a lunatic speed of 320 on a public road seems to have worked in the head department.

Don't wait for the 458 Scuderia, trade your 458 in for a Mondial, that way you'll appreciate real progress..

There are are lot of people that would die to own a 458, the mighty Scud, 430, 360CS even a Fiat 500 Bambino...we need to appreciate what we have, savour it, hold on to it, and most importantly remember how we all felt when we first took delivery of a Ferrari, the stares you gave it when parked and how we spent hours admiring it in our garages...what about the first time you pressed the red START ENGINE button....'

Forget about 30 year old aluminium, this company has gone bust, Corvette has the same whatever, market gyrations, some guy's Scud has gone down by 30k...who cares brother.

BTW I love the line about "pulling up at the restaurant with the blonde, open the door and leg comes out"...classic man, Ferrari's marketing men have got it all wrong

Go and have some fun with your toy...enjoy and relax.

This is why I think you'd like the 458. Its nice and behaved when you want it to, and pretty sporty when you want to push it. Its not quite as comfy as a 360 but more sporty than a CS, which says a lot. The scud just does 1 thing.

so true.. the reason I opted for a 458 instead of a Scud is that I already have an Ariel Atom (300) and in terms of visceral feeling, nothing can match it - not the Stradale, nor the Scud. The 458 has multiple personalities and can be used on the street, for fast driving on twisty mountain roads and on the track. my problem now is what to do with the porsche...

I have 1,500 miles on my 458, about 311 on a FCA run yesterday and I have to say the car's amazing. Comfy, quick as lightning and corners like it's on rails. A real wolf in sheep's clothing. I have not had the pleasure of driving the 430 scud but will at the first available opportunity. Why? Because, for me, I like the hard driving experience around corners on back roads much more than cruising on freeways or highways. That's what I've learned over the past 1,500 miles. So, it occurred to me that another way to look at this topic is the value for $$ spent if this is the type of driving you're looking to do. The 458 may have the latest tech and my God, it is beautiful and sleek but if you were looking to get the "best value" for these road-only drives (no track driving) and had to choose just one of them....which one?
I don't think this diminishes the other car in any way shape or form.

i'm thinking of tossing the scud for a 458 but the weight difference and the look doesn't float my boat. will the weight diff be discernible? will a 458 w racing seats feel sporty enuf, if a strad and a scud are the standard i like? thanks for your answers.

    ps i'm guessing no

If a Scud is the standard you like, then a 458 won't be sporty enough.

But I'm not sure why you're asking, just go and drive one.

I have driven both and the 458 IS more of a GT car. It does feel heavier and softer. The Scud is FAR more hard core.

Both are a gift from God. :)

I've driven both (own a 458 so not impartial here) and think the 458 is a much better car, which imho looks much better too. For what is worth, at the track a couple of weeks ago on the 458 I literally left a Scud in the dust without even trying hard and they guy is a good driver. It's a phenomenal car. Cant even imagine what the 458 Scuderia will do when it comes out.

I did that today in a test drive. Great car, the 430 scuderia but honestly compared to the 458...it just doesn't have the same level of speed and power IMHO. I like the sound, the feel of the car but the acceleration and shifts are not up to par with the 458. Can't wait for the 458 Scud....I definitely want one of those. Keep the spider, I'll take the 458 scuderia!

If you can't decide on Scud or 458 and don't want to wait for the Scud version of the 458, then I suggest getting a 458, putting on Novitec sway bars, a good set of shocks and springs, an exhaust and changing the brake pads and fluid to something that will last a lap or two, should you decide to track it. Sure, the 458 heavier than the Scud, but most of us don't track our cars more than a few times a year and aren't looking for saving every 1/10th of a second on each lap time. The next Scud version of the 458 will employ these changes anyways, as well as few more of course.
