why do you say that? reasons i think its better > better/warmer weather > not as isolated > much better environment for cars (perth is a crappy place for car enthusiasts) > much more 'happening' of a place > cheap real estate I get what your saying, but i dont think i could live there. ive sent them thousands of dollars, i usually work with the people at the Nigerian Office, they say they are based tehre rather than in the USA so that they can save costs. but they were very nice and also told me if i give them my bank account number they can provide me some money for when i finally get my green card, i just have to help them clear some funds and i get to keep 10% LOL I cant beleive it, we agree on something? this is scary. but i want to live somewhere because its a place i like, not because thats where i work. work can Kiss my @$$ life is about much more than that (so ive realised since my newly found singledom). i guess the question could be asked of whats in Adelaide also? (im not having a go here), its just a matter of what people like. i dont like Perth, its very isolated & expensive, and not a great place to make the most of my hobbies. Sydney is a little more pricey than i can afford, and not warm enough. and Melbourne, although a nice place, is far too cold. Ideally i'd live in either Miami, or San Diego.
Am a bit late to this convo but let just me say Point number 3 is Bullsh1t, if you look into an E-2 Visa you'll find the minimum investment for a business entity in the US is around the $150k mark. Depending on the entity it can even be a bit less. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-2_visa I know this because some of my former colleges from Pommie land have moved to Miami Florida on the E-2 visa, and there is a quite a large British expat community that exists and thrives solely because of that Visa. So just some food for thought for anyone seriously considering it.
you dont say? my investigation basically found me out that you can enter the country as an 'investor' if you establish a new business to the value of $1m usd, (or $500k usd in a less populated area). but i may investigate that further. Because in all honesty the last 2 years of my life have been taken up by other issues, and the last time i actively looked into it (and not just entered the lottery) was probably 2005.
All fair enough except for the price of real estate. And the other problem is that the Gold Coast is full of Gold Coast type people.
oh and i should add, Hawaii is also a place i could happily live every time i go there i just love the weather.
i love it at the moment, much better than 16 degrees. i hate our winter though, i hate having to wear jumpers. but in perth its too cold a good 7 months of the year for my taste. thats why Hawaii is good its like 27-28 degrees 24/7/365
If it is your first time to the US, you will LOVE it! Make sure you check out Vegas also. Cheap flights there daily. That place is like a LARGER version of the Gold Coast. Some people love it, some people do not like it. Personally, I loved it a lot. But each to their own if you ask me. I could see myself living in LA. I was fortunate enough to get the VIP tour and all the lowdown of whats a good area to live and what is not ect...ect... It is very livable IMO and that is coming from a guy like me, living in a hick town with a population of around 20,000 people. Rent and property prices are/were high, but cost of living is realitively cheap. Groceries, fuel, cars ect...ect.. I was told if I could earn US$80K there, I could afford to pay off a US$600K house, pay off a 348 and live very comfortably. Property in SoCal is overpriced bigtime I was told, but you can still get a very nice home in Orange County for US$600K ect...
Yeah it will be 1st time to USA(not including hawaii). I been to Canada b4 and enjoyed it even tho it was -10c during the day Ofcourse Vegas! I want to goto the gun range that lets you shoot autos/semis
Vegas sucks , been there too many times ... if you think the GC is plastic then LV is totally false although I know heaps of people that love it including my wife and son .. it's one of those places you either love or hate I loved Yellowstone and Yosemite along with most of Washington state and yet I hate camping and the outdoors
Is that 80k before or after tax? The reason I ask is that California is one of the highest taxed states. So 80k gross will be about 50k after tax while other states it will be more. The good thing in America is that you can claim interest on you primarily place of residence and reduce you taxable income. Provided you lived in the house for 2 out of the 5 years and your capital gain is below $250,000 for an individual or $500,000 for a couple you pay no tax on the property when you sell.
Brisvegas is the mudflats between the Gold and Sunshine Coasts isn't it ? I'm sick of having my passport stamped everytime I go to brissy for the day .... and the dingo fence is getting harder to climb over
Hahaha yep I'm visiting that gun range!!! Heading to the States with my best mate in 43 days time (whos counting) for 5 weeks, hiring a C6 Corvette and drive it across the country (fly to NY then Miami, then drive from there to LA). Been to LA before once and can't say I'm a huge fan of it, obviously certain areas look desirable but I think prices would keep me out.
yeah, i know what your sayin, but looking is fine. anyway, ive got a new girlfriend and she is more than any guy could ever want
Sounds like a fun trip. Hey, noting what you said re LA, did you stop at San Diego? I loved it there, but it was 16 years ago. Found it unlike many other cities in LA in that it was still a buzz but also lay back at the same time. Oh, and the vibes were right
I was at that gun range 2 weeks ago! US$1 per shot, irrespective of the weapon. They have like 180 types of firearms. I tried out their shotguns, semi-autos and auto machine guns..was awesome! Better to spend US$200 there than losing it at the casinos. Check out the ARBY's burger joint thats within walking distance from there Pic below is the target shot at by my bro..it was a semi-auto rifle with scope..can't remember the name!
