I'm not going to derail this thread, so I'm starting a new one in Silver Subscribed. ... back on topic, only if your definition of obsolete is "not the fastest ferrari," could the Scud be in any trouble, although it sounds like the Scud still may be the fastest on track, despite a horsepower disadvantage. Moreover, I think that narrow view of obsolescence is silly. As a toy for blowing your mind everyday, or as a tool for shaving down lap times, the Scud will be at, or near the top for a number of years to come.
IMO, I don't think the Scuderia is obsolete. Think of it as a 360 Challenge Stradale and the F430. That would be like saying, the Challenge Stradale is obsolete since the 430 came out.
Technically, just like all cars, it was obsolete the second it was produced. Manufacturers have products in the pipeline years in advance. The best cars sit on top for what? Maybe a year?
The CS is still the better track car and a soft track car like the Scud and a pure road car like the 458 simply don't measure up. It has nothing to do with statistics - it has everything to do with how the car feels to the driver - and the CS feels just perfect! Now if you want a boulevard cruiser none of them can hold a candle to the 599. IMVHO of course :
quite the faulty analogy there you don't need to own a ferrari to be able to look at one and form an opinion on its appearance. so no, it's actually nothing like that.
Wait, why does it matter? The 430 Scuderia will no longer be made when the 458 Italia gets released. When the 458 gets released it will be a 2010 model. The Scud came from a car from 2004, which was already a brilliant car for its time. You can only compare cars from their era. The 430 Scud depending on who tested it is the leader or near the top for all the tests for the current generation of performance cars. I mentioned this 12mths ago somewhere on forum that the 458 had to be at least as fast as the Scud to compete in the market. The performance market has moved on, we now have Datuns that are setting the pace, Ferrari aren't trying to kick the Scud customers by making a faster car, they are just trying to compete with what the market is demanding, which has moved since the Scud was 1st released. I'm interested why the Scud was chosen as the "obsolete" model when in fact the 458 is replacing the whole 430 range. Look at the differences between the 430 v 458. The Scud raised the bar for the competition for the late 00's it will always be a classic The day the Scud is obsolete is the day they ban petrol cars off the roads
Or like a guy who is getting a car from a dealer commenting about someone getting shafted on getting a car? http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=252086&highlight=458+deposit
"The CS is still the better track car and a soft track car like the Scud and a pure road car like the 458 simply don't measure up." Except for the CS lack of torque, twitchiness and slow shifting. Owned both, no doubt in my mind that the Scud is the better track car. This may be the most idiotic thread I've ever seen on fchat. Lifetime ban for the next jackass who starts a thread about depreciation?
LOL!! Exactly, they can enjoy their latest, non-obsolete Playstation game while you enjoy your obsolete cars. LOL! I'd take the obsolete cars any day.
And saying the SCUD is obsolete after the release of the 458 is like saying Heidi Klum is obsolete after Gisele Bundchen came on the scene. Obviously a combination of ignorance and jealousy to make such a statement.
The CS and Scuderia / 16 M will never be obsolete because of sound, all new cars in the future will have limited noise-rules ( confirmed by new EU rules). I personal love real engine, exhaust and intake air noises and not designed sound by acoustic eng. If you really love car sound buy a CS or a scuderia/16M then no new car anymore will have a chance. Like we will never have back the sound of 60s ferraris, each ferrari has her personal singularity, and loud ferrari sound on the road is like God for me
This coming from the guy who initially wanted a PPI for an F430, then advice on buying a Stradale and is now happy that he waited for the 458... Right, but PsyFi never gave any explanation as to why he thinks the Scuderia is obsolete. Maybe it's just me but I'm getting the impression that he's never seen a Scuderia, never mind driven one.
You have that right - kind of like a gay female psycho MD, never married, no children giving marital advice - true story
I've got a couple of friends of mine who have ridden in my Scuderia who have stated they are now officially ruined for life. And that's just from them riding in it.
Yeah I understand. If I just bought a Ferrari I wouldn't want some 16-year-old kid on a message board calling it obsolete.
Just returned from hammering on a 16M through some mountainous twisty roads (fall colors and leaves starting to show) and I can confidently say there's NO WAY this car will obsolete come the 458. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Damn straight I was "boot scootin' boogie" trying to chase you down in your (obsolete) SCUD. LOL!! Image Unavailable, Please Login
