    Hello All
New to the forum and on the market for a Scuderia or 599 gtb. Can any one advise me on this. Did some research and found out 2008 models fit my budget. Is it worth to trade in a 911 turbo. I use my turbo quite a bit. If anyone selling a red one please let me know too. My biggest question is 430 or 599?. Please advise. Living in Houston and roads are not that great. Thanks.

They are very different - the 599 might be more compliant over poor roads but it also depends what you seek : a tourer with lots of power or a sports car - the 911 Turbo tends more to the former

Drive both then decide - I'd be surprised if there's not other similar threads worth searching for here - no doubt if the question is asked in the 599 area they'll vote for that and vv for the Scud

Both the cars will be infinitely more exciting than 911 Turbo. I you want more DD capability go for 599 GTB.

Scuderia all the way!!! But I don't think I would use either as a daily driver... If it was me and I wanted an all out pleasure car probably the Scuderia... either one is a big step up from the porsche!!!

I've put a decent amount of miles on both cars. Last weekend was the first time I really got to drive a a front engine Ferrari (2008 599 GTB). I put about 100 miles on it. That and the Scud are 2 completely different cars. In my opinion everyone should have a mid engine and front engine Ferrari. The Scud is one of my favorite cars and now after driving the 599 GTB I can't believe how much I liked that car! The 599 is a car you could drive for over an hour to dinner and your significant other would love the ride of the car. In the Scud they might not like it as much because of how raw it is. The scud will be a lot more raw than the porsche turbo....

Just my $.02, I hope that helps.....

Compared to 911 Turbo (any Turbo from 1976 to 2012): 599 and Scuderia will feel much better and more fun.

599 vs 430 scud... those are two VERY drastically different cars.

I would go drive both and decide which one fits you better.

The Scud does have the Schumacher mode for bad roads. Put it in Race and press the shock button. It displays both the Race and bumpy road. Still not a GT, but way more fun.

    @Dan-

What shock button are you referring to?
I own a Scud and I have no idea what you are talking about:)

I'm going to make you an even happier Scud driver (if that's possible).
Set the Manettino to Race then press the center console button with the shock absorber graphic. It's just above the emergency flasher button. The shocks go into soft mode while the rest of the car is aggressive. The dash display will say Race, F1-S, and show a bumpy road. Known as the Schumacher mode because Ferrari lore has it that he requested it during development of the Scud.
    P. 81 of the manual shows the switch, button, and what modes are available. Soft is also available in the two modes above Race, but not in Sport.

    Wow... what a 1st world problem :D

Regarding comfort... I sold my F430 after I bought my 16M. While I am in love with 16M, my wife is not in love with the seats or the ride. We recently took the car on a 100 mile round-trip and I'm pretty sure she'll request one of the other cars for the next trip.

Actually I dont think bad roads are the 599s forte. Gobbling up highway miles and yet still being able to carve the twisties is what the 599 is all about. But if you want a car to give you a quick hit of instant gratification in a 20-30 minute blast of a drive, then thats the Scud. The 599 is more of a comfy GT but it has the power and the moves if you press on. If you want to discuss engine sound its no contest. The Scud makes a nice sound. The 599 makes an incredible noise. And there is nothing like the fast revving, smoothness the V12 gives you.

On #16 & #17, the two posts above.
The seats are definitely less comfortable/adjustable than P-car 'adaptive sport' or even Lexus SUV. No lumbar adjustment, etc. However the 'rough road' setting on the shocks, pretty much smoothes the ride. Get your wife to give you one more chance.
Disclaimer, I'm getting no second chance after demonstrating the Scud Hammer to my wife.
On the 12 cylinder F-cars. Yes, they are special. I've been fortunate to have two and they sound, feel, are, different!

Not sure if the 599 has better fuel economy than the GTO nor would it matter to folks, but damn, was the GTO thirsty...I think I could only avg 5-7mpg lol must be my lead foot.

My wife is of the opposite opinion, finds the 16M seats more comfy than my 430 coupe (as do I), although she did like the fact the previous seats were heated. Being able to set soft suspension in Race mode is a huge step forward in comfort/performance balance.

I think the SCUD has a fairly comfortable ride in the soft suspension mode. I've taken it for 3-4 hours road trips and it's pretty good. My girlfriend is still complaining about the lack of leather and carpeting in the SCUD compared to the 911 and other Ferraris she's seen...lol. And yes, she doesn't feel safe because of the fire extinguisher..."Why is that thing here, is it going to catch on fire?"

You could add carpeting (I put red rubber mats specifically cut for the Scud in, since it is more in keeping with the minimalist theme). And leaving the extinguisher in the garage isn't much risk, since in the rare event of a fire, bail out, don't play with the extinguisher.

I think the perfect balance is a set of Andrew's mats. Good balance.
