I want to upgrade the stock speakers in each door with a stock size, and not change the outward appearance in any way. Is that possible? Does anyone know what stock size is in the door? Is it 5 1/4"? I want to keep the same head unit but just upgrade the speakers, as one of them is blown.

    Anyone done this?

Thanks Scott. Is it possible to upgrade the speakers and keep a 100% stock look - with that black cloth cover?

:) Excellent, thanks sclja. Sounds like a pretty easy DIY project to me, if just changing speakers ... and will look 100% stock. Just what I was after. Is getting the door cover off pretty easy?

No it is not easy, and if you are not familiar with this type of work - and have the tools - you will probably ruin them.
There are step by step instructions how to do it. Search this forum.

OK ... I have spent over 30 minutes searching for detail on this, and cannot find it. Can you help me? I have searched 6 different ways ... under removing door panels for the 430.

    Thoughts?

Wow, I think I would rather just live with the OEM speakers...Besides, I think I have the stereo shut off 90% of the time, so i can listen to the engine...

Oh C'mon Lamont ... doesn't look so bad. Plus, I am very handy with this kind of stuff :) If you have a blown speaker, just turning on the radio creates a loud crackling noise, rendering the stereo completely useless. I listen to the engine 75% of the time - but a bit of well placed AC/DC at the right moment, is great in this car.

I'll let you know how it goes ... already bought the new speakers. I am just going to take my time and have fun with it.

That's what I thought at first and I must admit, I almost never turn on the radio when driving in town, but when on an extended drive on the highway, it's nice to have some tunes. The OEM system is unbelievable crappy, even with the hi-fi option.

I found some plug & play aftermarket options and created a thread about them but it doesn't appear that anyone has tried them. Not sure if they're worth the $ (but anything is better than the OEM ones).

The original speakers in my doors were cracked (paper backing). Went with Focals and a new system with amplifier and sub. Much better!

    Alpine CDA 9886 head unit
Focal K2 165KR speakers in the doors
JL 8W3V38 8-inch sub in a black leather enclosure behind the passenger seat
Alpine PDX 4.100 amp installed in the trunk with a carpeted fiberboard cover (beneath a false bottom)

Nice. I am going simple ... just changing the speakers to a nice quality unit ... and leaving everything else. I don't need to thump at mach 10 ...

I'll let you know how it goes.

Marbenne, please do let us know how it goes...my hobby in A/V stuff is even bigger than my Ferrari hobby (a/v is much less expensive). I used to hang out at Roger Sound Labs all the time when I was a kid and built custom boxes in high school for people's cars, etc...back then JBL, Infinity and MB Quart was the cool stuff...now it seems like JL Audio is what everyone is using?

So what ever happened to your low oil pressure issue?

Well, I have a bit$hin home theater that you would really like then :)

Yep, I'll let you know how the speaker upgrade goes ... looks like a nice Sunday afternoon job, and it will improve the sound immensely over a blown speaker.

PS, I'll post a separate thread on my low oil pressure findings.

What brand speaker would you use to replace the stock Sub & Passive radiator in a 05' F430 Coupe? Located between the seats, over & under config.

Also what size are they condered? Ohms?

    Many Thanks!

I was not happy with my speakers at first but one can do a lot with adjustments on the unit settings to make improvements without changing anything
