Also, an exotic-car dealer friend of mine told me that red/tan right now is a poor resale combo and told me not to order it. He said almost any color is better than that combo. Too many red ones out there, especially red/tan.
Regardless of "high miles" and "color", that price is below MSRP. Maybe with the CF options it may be 20K or more below MSRP. I may be prejudiced, but I still think red/light interior (not black) is still the best resale color. The reason there are so many red ones for sale, is that the owners wanted that color when they bought and I think buyers still do.
I agree with you on that. I think the resale value is determined more on the condition of the car, the mileage and the year of the vehicle. I don't think the color really makes that much of an impact. Although there are alot of rosso corsa/tan combo F cars out there, they still sell pretty well granted by the terms I stated above.
I think color is very important, especially to the typical Ferrari buyer. I wanted Grigio Silverstone for my 430 and I waited until I got it. I could have chosen from at least 6 red/tan combos that would have been perfectly acceptable and probably saved me $5k. But, when you're spending that much $$$, you want what you want. I'm not knocking red/tan, I think it looks great, but it simply wasn't my first choice.
+1. I am going to guess a prior rental. Look for need for a new clutch, balding or recently replaced tires, and worn or recently replaced brake pads. The baby pictures, extended warranty, mileage, price and red/tan all fit the profile. The car will drive a little ragged. May need $5-10K of work. Just some wild speculation on my part.
You sure have a good imagination. The price reflects the current stand still in the market. There are similar cars that have failed to reach $200k at recent dealer auctions. This is getting closer to the true market price, but still no takers....
Thanks, I take pride in my imagination! This particular red/tan car had no takers. Here's an almost identical car, in terms of mileage, year, power warranty, resale color (black/tan) also no bids - $215k: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks___2005-Ferrari-F430-F1-Spider-Recent-Service-NORESERVE_W0QQitemZ270247741665QQddnZCarsQ20Q26Q20TrucksQQddiZ2282QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item270247741665&_trksid=p3756.m14.l1318. I will go out on a limb that this car also is a prior rental. Despite the attractive price, no bids were made - because buyers know this is a pig with lipstick. On the other hand, this car had multiple bids, with a high bid of $240K (but did not reach reserve of 249.5K): 2005 red/tan spider, 3500 miles http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks___2005-FERRARI-F430-F1-SPIDER-RED-TAN-LIKE-NEW-LOW-MILES_W0QQitemZ220243196497QQddnZCarsQ20Q26Q20TrucksQQddiZ2282QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item220243196497&_trksid=p3756.m14.l1318. Other things to note about prior rentals: they will have full service records but are devoid of any evidence of TLC: no clear bra, no skid plates, very stock, but possessing the most desirable options (F1, daytona electric seats, shields, red, black or yellow). Carfax will show two owners, the first one for a short period (probably the CEO) who presumably wants to deflower the car, and a second name - probably the president (always a personal name, never a corporation name), a few months later, when the owner turns her over to the brothel. When you drive her, she will be looser than the corner crack ho. How's that for imagination?
Hard to tell for me if it was a rental or maybe somebody who just drove the car- amazing somebody would drive a Ferrari hahahahaha
FYI...Carfax doesnt tell you **** about anything...I buddy of mine, nearly totaled his car, had it paid for with insurance (approx 15K damage) and it came back with a clean bill of health on carfax. Go figure.
So It took me a minute to figure this out but I can vouch for the quality of this car and its owner. I did not realize it but I spoke with him personally last week about the probable sale of this car. The owner is just looking to move it quickly but owns several other high end exotics and is a top guy! This is NOT a former rental and has been well cared for and is a no story car to the best of my knowledge. Anyone seriously in the market WILL be getting an excellent example with this one!!!!!
DING-DING-DING! This is the coup de grace. Multiple exotic car owner = PRIOR EXOTIC RENTAL! (multiple exotic car owner = multiple low mileage cars - what mileage is on his other cars?). These are time-share clubs, not the pay per day type. So I guess it depends on what your definition "is" is. I am not that smart, I almost bought one of these last year, absolutely identical scenerio. Somebody had to tell me it was a rental (Chris from Dream Cars West). When confronted, the seller admitted it to me but said there is no way anyone would know from the registration. Nothing wrong if you want to get it, but a buyer is entitled to know what the car was used for. When getting the PPI, see what percentage the clutch overheat is - that will tell you about abuse.
Lots of speculation in this thread. Seems like a good PPI would eliminate concerns for the serious buyer.
....so I called him this morning and realized I new him and the car NOT A RENTAL NOT A RENTAL NOT A RENTAL NOT A RENTAL!! Of this I am certain!!! SOLID F-CAR GUY WELL KNOWN IN AZ FERRARI COMMUNITY!!!!!
