Went to test drive a 2001 w 44k miles - silver on merlot. Was very impressed by the condition of the car, especially the interior. Reviewed a stack of receipts showing lots of maintenance and repairs. Valves/heads were done at 27k and clutch and shocks were done recently. Sticky no more and leather all done too. Has front chips but dealer will repaint prior to delivery. Car is everything one would want in a 6 speed 456 M.

That said, after driving it I decided a 456 is not the right car for me.

Anyone in the market should check this car out.

    HI NoahCPA

What the car didn't meet your expectation? Care to share, I am in the market for one although not in your part of the globe and am deciding between a Ferrari 456GT and a Porsche 993 C2S. I have driven a 993 but not a 456, so your critique might help me in certain ways.

    Thanks

It was comfortable and sedate, and what I want is more of a sports car. Plus, my dd is an S600 and the power of the 456 pales in comparison to the twin turbo v12. If I wanted another cruiser, I think there are other options. Make sure to drive one. I was expecting more "sport" and less "comfort".

As a 456M owner, I'd say this is accurate. Also, if you have an S600, even a 575M will seem quite a bit less powerful. I'm not you, so I don't know what will float your boat, but it may not be a Ferrari.

    Cheers,

    George

LjT, I have a 996 and 456, both 6 speeds. Try the 456. I won't try to describe all the differences but will say they are different. Most cogent argument is the Porsche is a 0-80 mph car, and the Ferrari is a 80-180 mph car. Both do well in the other's territory but each excels in a different manner.

Suffice to say, neither a Benz nor a P-car is a Ferrari. You and NoahCPA may find this Top Gear clip interesting. The 456 stuff doesn't show up for about 20 minutes.... the beginning is pretty cool though...and sums up what a Ferrari is...

    Regards.....Mark

    HI Mark,

You described it very well. Pity, didn't get to watch the video, youtube is blocked in China. Different car for different occassion that is.

    Regards

    Not!

    The S600 and the S63AMG do 0-60mph = 4.6 sec; the S65 AMG = 4.2 sec

    Ferrari 575M F1 0-62mph (0-100kph) = 4.1 sec. As to top speed, unless it has been tweaked, the Mercedes S600 top speed is governor-limited to 250kph = 155mph while the 575M's top is 325kph = 202mph.

That said, the 456 does offer less vivid performance: 0-62mph = 5.2sec but a top speed of 300 kph = 188mph.
