I am recharging my AC system. I've done this on some other cars so I am familar with the drill.

I have vacummed the system and I am ready to add refrigerant but when I start the first bottle, I cannot get the AC pump to engage. Is there a trick to this? Do I need to override a pressure switch or something?

My WSM manual does not cover that AC system

    System was working fine before.

The system has a safety that will not engage compressor until there is pressure in system

Pull vacuum then add the amount of feron called for ..then run across to check pressures /temp

you can do it without playing with the pressure switch

I wasn't suggesting that ..I was saying fill as much as you can with system off then turn on to finish off and check pressures and temp

So something is wrong. Blockage or overcharge I think.

Gauges start out at 64/175, then the high side rises to 64/225. The fan kicks on and it drops back to 64/175.

Thoughts? Where would you start? I've changed the Drier with the same result. I guess I could back off the charge some. I've put 38 OZ in but it calls for 45. No harm in doing that.

After that I think I'll run a flush.
