hey, I am considering buying a 456 and live in south texas. Have any of you owners found the 456's ac to be lacking or just like your normal honda?

    Thanks in advance.

can't say vs honda, but I get artic air from my '95. Takes a bit getting used to the exotic automatic controls, so we just adjust manually but air is COLD and we need it going to hot Sacramento each weekend.

It works ok. Not as good as a honda though. If you want really cold air, you will have to blast it. Doing this create quite a bit of cabin noise. When you put it on low (to reduce the cabin noise), it is not as cold as blasting it. I have an 03 456M. It has just had a full AC service from my local dealer. Hope this helps.

That's not true, I repair air cons underground at work and as part of a repair we performance test the air con to measure its output temps at the vent just as I done so in my 348 picture.

What happens is if you increase your fan speed to full to "blast it" as you say you are correct that it is noisy but are not correct about putting it in low is not as cold as full blast, The reason is that in low air takes longer to travel through the air con evaporator thus making the air cooler at the vent, on high the air flows through there quicker and thus not getting as cool as on low.

Most of the time when I first turn on my air con I usally turn the fan speed to fast to cool the cabin quicker but then turn the fan speed to low to keep the cabin as cool as possible, same again if I open the door ect.... plus you can really hear the exhaust better on low also :eek:

True that on the A/C . It will blow out very cold after a short while on my 2001 456. ( In muggy Wash DC,) The fan noise is also very loud on full blast but it ususally is not necessary to blast it for long as the A/C works well. It is a little counterintuitive to work the controls but not too bad. good luck.

blasting it just about drowns out my tubi tunes!

blasting it in the begining is just to get temp down. and I don't even turn on AC if car has not been properly warmed up, don't want to lug the enginel. so, when in hot area, say 90+ at times, and car has been properly warmed, I 'blast' it and let it go until temp is ok, set controls for desire [usually find the marking of temp are almost worthless] comfort.

back off the blast and the 'noise' is not noticable. kept stock ac on the 456, and made the mistake of converting 348 to diff. mix, went back to stock on that about a year later.

ac on the 456 is good, and believe since cabin is small enough all are comfortable real soon. I do believe the muggy in DC would be a problem. there are micro air filters for the air. blowing them out is ok, IMO and not replacing them

recirc, according to the manual, means if you leave in the auto mode, of always recircing, it will cycle in 'new' air evey 120seconds [2min] so if you want a bit more control leave the recirc on....trying that lately but not sure it does much.

lastly, I understand there are some issues with ac flapper valves in the delivery system: currently have a note on one checkup that says the mech went in and just removed it! prev. owner didn't want the expense of replacing I guess, but I think it probably had something to do with the recirc, system and poses no problem, which I really don't care about recirc unless DEAD SKUNK was on the road...never seem to hit the recirc button soon enough!
