    Speakers in a 456....
    a. 2 in the rear parcel shelf
    b. 2 under the rear seat ! ! ! (is that real)
    c. 2 in the doors
    d. 2 in the front dash

    Did I miss any ?

Mine are really in need of replacement.

The rear speakers seem the hardest to get at .
So are there any decent write ups on how to access the speakers ?

    Anyone.

To get to the rear speakers what's the order of disassembly on the rear seats ?

If you don't have access to a shop manual, try looking at the diagrams on Ricambi's site.

Peel back the carpet tabs just below the bottom seat bolster to find two 10mm bolts.
Remove those and lift the seat bottom up and towards you.
Once the bottom bolster is removed, you'll find additional bolts for the upper bolster and the adjacent side panel.
There are also some screws that hold the pillar pieces in place.

Take your time, be gentle, and don't force anything. If it seems difficult to remove a piece, it's because you missed a fastener.

Killer58 is entirely correct. In addition, the immobilizer is behind the side panel on the rear of the passengers side. There is a how to remove the immobilizer set of instructions on the FerrariFobs website. It's very useful. https://www.ferrarifobs.com/456-immobilizer-removal.

Once you have done enough of this, you'll feel pretty confident on how to dig any of this stuff out. Let us know how its going....

    Rear Speakers

    No need to remove anything.

    Floor Speakers
There is a speaker under each rear seat, facing forwards hidden behind the carpet.
Lift the floor carpets, and then lift up the vertical carpet to reveal the speaker.
There is a protective spacer ring glued on the front to stop damage.
    It's a 5" round unit.

    Parcel shelf speakers
2 screws hold the grill in place.

    Rear Centre Console
Now if you want the rear ashtray out then it's a bit more work.

The rear seats need to come out.
2 bolts at the front of the bottom cushions (either side of the speaker) 9mm

Then the vertical cushion, 1 bolt and 1 screw

The Centre console mounting brackets can be seen 4 bolts - again 9mm

Now the centre console is out, you can access the ashtray.

Just wanted to thank you for taking the time to write this.

Do you have any thoughts and suggestions on replacing the head unit?

    Cheers

    Hi,

If this is an original 456GT unit in the trunk and a face/control unit in the center console it can be recondotioned and work like a charm again. It is compatible with all ”uniink” Sony equipment. Mine needed 10+ capasitors replaced, the trunk gets hot and has no ventilation, there’s a thread about the stereo in this forum.

If it is a later 456M unit, then I suppose it could be replaced easier, although I always think OE adds to the value of the car.

    Cheers!

Thanks so much again for your time, I appreciate it - it is for a 456M, however my question is do you know the procedure on how to remove the deck unit? If it's too lengthy or complicated, no worries - I don't mean to take your time. I do plan to keep the original, but since most my media is digital, I plan on purchasing a simple bluetooth deck for ease of use.

    Best wishes.

    Hi,

Sorry, I don’t know the details of the 456M unit, but I think it should be simpler. Does it have the four round small holes in the front face for ”DIN” bracket removal? If not I would consider removing the center console which does require unmounting the rear seat piece by piece and some other interior but then you could also fix other small things.

Also I have most content in digital, but the CD unit now works fine for all CD’s (another later Sony unit) and I put the cables (USB and 3.5mm stereo miniplug) in the rear seat ashtray/ cigarette lighter mounting for the Sony XA-300 unit in the trunk.

    Cheers!

Rear Seat and Rear Window speakers are done.
The rear window speakers are odd as they are mounted with only 3 screws.
Ferrari literally drill a hole in the flange of the speaker to mount it.

    Door Speakers

So - how to access the door speakers ?

    Paul,

The stock 456M head unit is probably the BE2372:
    Image Unavailable, Please Login
To remove it from the center console, first remove the faceplate by pushing the tab on the far right.
Then, you insert the removal tools into the slots at the lower corners (see pen point to the left one)

Below is a picture of the spring clips that hold the unit in the mounting bracket, the tool draws those spring clips in, allowing you to pull the head unit up and out.

If you have one of the newer units, the 6104 or 6105, it's much the same only easier to access the slots.

Mine are the thinner type with the extra little gizmo on the thumb holes:
    Image Unavailable, Please Login

I believe the thicker ones are for the 6104/6105/6112.

My car did not have them when I bought it, they were obviously misplaced at some point.
Usually always a few pair for sale on eBay for around $3.00-4.00.
For the price at Soundgroup, you can get an entire 20-piece set.

Just be very careful inserting the tools, they should go straight in. If they go askew, they can easily get jammed or damage the spring clips.

These are not for a carbon console, the whole console must lift out with radio attached.

Okay, just wanted to update the community, replaced the head unit with something more modern, keeping the old one of course. The speakers are shot me think, I'll replace the rear ones as it seems those are easy to do. I hear the dashboard tweeters are PITA, I assume the front door panel needs to come out for those?

    Anybody have sizes?

    Cheers

Okay just finished the deck install (speakers are shot, so doing that next)

    Hope this helps,

    1999 MGTA Speaker Wire colors

    Green = Right Rear Positive
    Green/Black = Right Rear Negative
    Black = Right Front Positive
    Gray/Blue = Right Front Negative
    ---------------------------------------------------------
Gray/Blue (yes, same as color as Right Front Negative...go figure) = Left Front Positive
    Black/Red = Left Front Negative
    Gray/Red = Left Rear Positive
    Black/Gray = Left Rear Negative

Now on to replace the door speakers, rear speakers

Instructions/Video on how to remove door panel

It seems the rear speakers under the seats are straightforward, anyone have advice for the 456M rear parcel shelf speakers? I don't see any apparent bolts to remove.

From what I can tell the tweeters in the dash is practically a no-go without removing the whole dash...

    Cheers
