Need your expert advice ... I was looking to purchase a 2000 456M GTA located in Indianapolis. The car is having an issue with back firing while driving. An independent mechanic that the owner uses took a look at it, and he found that one of the cylinders is bad. They are telling me that the estimate to repair is about $10,000. Could that be right? How serious is a bad cylinder? Any input would be appreciated! Marv
That is a kind of vague description. Bad cylinder meaning what exactly: bad valves? bad rings? bad piston? bad valve guides? Is there any smoke from oil at the exhaust? If the symptom is only backfiring, then it is probably a spark plug that is not firing and there is where I would start my investigation.
