I replaced my 456 with a new battery and alternator , when I start up my car, the battery light will come on then go away, everytime is like that. I am getting around 13.3 volts on start up. Could it be the alternator belt which I didn't change?

Does it stay on only while cranking, along with a lot of the other lights, and then go off when it starts to run?

Hi mate, it could be a loose alternator belt that slips on start up causing the battery light to stay on then it goes out when the belt 'grips'.

Re-check the tension on the belt man. I am assuming that it doesn't 'squeal' on start up, so it might be ok.

Are you sure they ALL don't have the battery on then off on start up. I am not familiar with the charging system on the 456.

Why did you replace the battery and alternator to begin with?? Because of this issue you are having now?

So should I also replace the belt? No squeal......... previously alternator and volbattery tested no good. Is 13.3 volts normal during start up? When I am driving is only showing 12.5 to 13v..... loose belt possibly ?

No need to replace the belt if it's OK and not squealing.

So the old battery and alternator were no good, fair enough.

But I probably wouldn't pay REAL close attention to the accuracy of the volt gauge in car, if that is where you are getting these charging numbers?

I would recheck the belt tension, just incase it IS slipping................but not squealing.

Then, check the battery voltage at the battery and alternator with a multimeter.
