What are the proper steps to removing the dash cap over the instrument cluster. Mine has the usual symptoms of leather shrinkage and I would like to get repaired. I can now see the staples, as I'm sure many of you have experienced.
Thanks in advance for your help

Yes this is not difficult - about 20 min:
    1. Under the steering wheel, at the shroud remove the 2 longest screws (far left and far right nearest the wheel).

    2. Then drop the wheel with the lever and pull up on the top part of shroud to remove (with the vin).

3.Then crouch down and find 2 10mm bolt heads facing straight out. Remove with a ratchet and extension and lift the cluster from the front. It’ll pivot up on metal tabs and remove.

    4. There are 3 long wire looms that have quick connects - usually easier to reach in the well. Disconnect and fish out and voila.

Is that an "M" car, Ed?

Is the procedure the same for a non-M car?

    Thanks.

Sorry delay - yes mine is a 2001 456M GT. (Evidently 1 of 74 3-pedal M’s in the states depending who you believe :) I believe this is same procedure for the pre-M GT’s
