    Hello all,

I have a 95 456GT that is due for the timing belt service. At the same time, I have experienced an oil leak at the front of the engine, that typically occurs when the engine is running. It is proposed that it could be the front engine cover gasket that needs to be replaced. While we do the timing belt service, we intend on fixing the leak. This may involve an engine out repair, and the thinking is that we should address the common issues while we are at it. The car is almost 30 years old and I was thinking of doing the necessary preventative work to keep it in good condition and avoid future engine out repairs. I would appreciate some advice on the following:

    1. Since the engine is out what elements should I replace at this point. I would think it’s worth replacing the seals, gaskets and parts that are tricky to access. Any advice would be appreciated.
    2. I would think that all rubber hoses should be replaced.
    3. Should I stick to OEM or are there any superior hoses and other parts that should be changed now?

A related but separate question would be concerning the Ferrari Premium Package. Is this something worth considering under the circumstances.

Thank you for your time and advice.

    Regards,
    Rian

No reason to pull the motor at all. Front cover can be accessed in place. If anything pull the radiator to create more space

Agree with above - no reason to pull the engine.
There are plenty of blogs and other sources and videos to help you along
depending on the history of maintenance you might do the water pump, hoses in the valley, inspect the alternator and AC compressor, etc
    good luck!

Get silicon hoses where able. Plenum hose should be changed with each major. Where are you located? AWI has a silicon hose set (US), I believe SPUK does over in the UK.
This was my full checklist from my last major (Note my fuel filters were not done because doing a complete fuel system overhaul later this year):

    Major Service

    1. Replace Belts/Cam Pulleys
    · 2 x 187744 TIMING BELT (456/550/575/612)
    · 1 x 201447 BELT "DAYCO PV-K" A 6 (alternator/air con belt)
    · 1 x 199836 BELT POLY-V K5 (water pump/power steering belts)
    · 2 x PT550 456/550/575/612 CAM BELT PULLEY

    2. Replace Oil + Air + Pollen Filters
    · 2 x 206166 OIL FILTER
    · 2 x 151562 AIR FILTER
    · 1 x 63897800 Pollen FILTER/AIR/COMPLETE

    3. Replace Intake + CAM Gasket/Seals/O-Rings; Fix all Oil Leaks
    · 7 x 117275 CAM O-RING
    · 4 x 163987 CAM SEAL
    · 2 x 140787 END PLATE GASKET
    · 2 x 140753 GASKET
    · 4 x 114808 CAM BOLT O-RING
    · 2 x 154562 GASKET
    · 2 x 324050 INTAKE-HEAD ALUMINUM GASKERT STRIP

    4. Replace all hoses, including Plenum Hose 181599

If you do want to also do your fuel system, see my link above or this thread: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/replacing-fuel-pump-supports-in-the-456m-and-boy-am-i-glad-i-did.694059/

Thank you Jared and Auraraptor. I really appreciate the advice on this forum.

@Auraraptor, I am based in South Africa. SPUK may be the best option and I will definitely consider them.

I must confess that I lack the confidence and competence just yet to tackle these on my own. I do however have an independent who is educating me. In time I will be able to attempt the low risk jobs.

I cannot think of a good reason to remove the radiator. Removing just the radiator is more work than the entire front cover job. And I also suggest doing a real diagnosis on the oil leak before just taking things apart. Hate to have it all back together and find it is still leaking.
