    Congratulations!

I have 1995 456GT, Canna di Fucile with a dark blue interior. What advice are you looking for?

Congradulations! I have always loved the 456 GT. I thought about getting a 1997 model, dark blue with a tan interior and 6-speed manual transmission. Please tell me you got yours in manual...

Yes, it is a GT - Manual 6 speed.

In terms of advice, really what to look out for and expect. I know the windows are an issue, they seem to need realignment every couple of years, the rear shocks have been replaced, and the heater control unit needs to be kept out of the sun or the plastic will contort. Any other model quirks ?

    Thanks.

Seats can be a problem. They are suppose to go forward when pulled forward then back once set back is returned to the normal position. Sometimes the potemeter gets over driven and the seat can get in an ackward position. Watch out for car wash guys and the occational passenger unfamiliar with the car. They will use the seat control to move the back of the seat forward to allow for egress, but all that does is confuse the seat and sometimes locks it up requireing removal...I speak from experience.

Other than what has been mentioned, very very reliable car and awsome performance. Talk to the guys who own them and they will tell you the car hangs (stays up with) with 550's,355's, 360's and even f40's when called to action. Rememeber once you get the car rolling, all that torque and HP have to mean something...an believe me it does.

I'm almost ready to drive my 1994 456 GT. I've already driven an 348 for some time (half year) And I do hope it runs the same !

The troubles with the seats, yeah I've got the same problemo I think ! :) But it is and stays an italian car, beauty all over but electronics and little mechanism ???

BTW If you guy's need parts I've bought me an parting out 456 to repair mine, so I do have a lot 456 parts.

    Kinnie,

The retractable headlight is a source of problem. Try to switch on and off every now and then so that it did not jam up.

Have your technician check that the water hose under the inlet manifold has been upgraded, also check the motor mounts, when they sag a bump can break the oil line and presto , no oil. I love mine.

In terms of the windows, the "thrust" requires adjustment, even after the updates have been done. This is just a quirk... you can also activate some "self-learning" by hold the key in the locked or open position to open and close the window (do so and hold in place for 5 sec after window is open or closed).

Also, I'm told that throttle sometimes requires adjusting (at the pedal).

The transaxle is the only other major known problem, but as long as you are not abusive and the car is well maintained, I don't foresee it to be a problem.

My seats require some work... you'll find that the latch to release the seat forward sometimes requires adjustment...

Welcome to the club! haha... :)

Congratulations! 456s are absolutely phenomenal cars! I don't have anything to add to the other posts, other than to say that I couldn't be happier with mine.

Thanks for the advice. My front seats have been a bit tempermental. Passanger side works fine but drivers side latch has a mind of its own. I have "solved" the problem by only using the passanger side to access the back seats.

Don't worry about the problem of the driver's seat as no one could actually sit at the back seat unless you are shorter than 5 feet!!

    Cheers

There is a thin shaft in the instrument panel plastic cover which when pushed tells the outside temp. This is real easy to break off, especially if the car wash people are cleaning the inside. Replacing it is about $250 as I recall. I have driven two 456's a total of 50000 miles and had no real issues beyond those mentioned in this thread. Watch the nose, the radiator is the lowest thing in the front and will wear thru. Enjoy it, I like mine a lot.

Great Info.. I did alot of research before just buying a 456 GT.. I just picked it up in
texas this last weekend and drove it to colorado --- 1300 miles.. Kansas never looked so good at
140mph.. The only problem I had on the trip was I had to slow down and fill up with gas!

    Hi Guys

Bumped this thread as I am seriously thinking of joining the club!

    Have also read Rob's thread

    http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=29797&highlight=456+A%2FC

So I think I've got a good idea on what to look out for - but any further information or comments is always welcome.

I'm actually looking at 2 Rosso Red 456GT's, one with crema interior the other black - alot of people seem to dislike the bigger Fcars in Rosso - I guess its 'horses for courses'. One is a 95 with 33k, the other a 96 with 29k and both very similarly priced.

Higgins the reason I used your quote is that you don't seem to own the 456 any more. Just wondered if it was a bad experience owning the 456, which made you sell it on in a matter of a few months.

    Cheers Kevan

400SPYDER, I still have the 456 GT. So far the ownership experience has been mixed. Great when it has been on the road, but a couple of unexpected mechanical issues in-between. Send me a PM if you are interested in more details. Cheers, Higgins23

I purchased the car with the tubi exhaust already installed.
However, since then I've also done the following:
    - Added BMC Air Filters
    - Lowered the car
    - Added 19" Kinesis Motorsport Wheels

I'm about to upgrade my brakes next week !!
(I'll tell you more about it later on... I'll post it all in the technical section)

    Cheers,
    Byron
