Hi everyone new to the forum. . recent owner of a F456 GT - 1997. I am looking for a replacement clutch .. but dont like the paper factory clutches that needs often change. Something not for racing but little high way and stop and go traffic use which can also handle bursts of ferrari sprit on the highway.. I heard AP has clutches for 456 GT. Anyone used them? or have parts numbers.. what are your thoughts.. Thanks Hakan
456 uses the same clutch as the TR512, 456, 456M, 550, 575, and probably the current V12's. Yours is the very first complaint I have heard durability or fragility. In fact since 1992 I have heard nothing but the opposite.
Hi .. Thanks for the reply. The change of clutch is a pretty hard job on the 456GT . .need to move the tubelar shaft back and down.. takes about a day at the service.. just wanted something that lasts longer.. Thank you for reply
You can have you current clutch upgraded to a sintered ceramic paddle type. I do it to all sorts of Ferrari quite frequently.. here's the 550 one I've done. I call it a race clutch, but it's incredibly streetable. maybe a tiny touch of judder if you pull away so slowly it drops below idle, but a small slip and it's great. This one has done many 1000's of track km since install. The upgrade costs less than a std new Ferrari clutch. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Any competant local clutch rebuilder, with race experience, knowhow and a little direction from your Ferrari spanner man. Or, send your old worn out one to me (including the pressure plate) and I'll do it for you. You can also take 4kg off the flywheel while you're in there... which is a major gain in acceleration.... How much better?... well, you WON'T wear it out for a VERY long time (4-5 times std clutch life?). It won't fly apart on you, slicks won't spit it out and it'll take 600BHP+ reliably if you're dabbling elsewhere.
Like I said... just a touch of judder perhaps, if you pull away especially slowly/manoevure car a lot. Possibly more aggressive on flywheel wear... but really not much... maybe 10% Lack of springs takes lots of backlash out of transmission too... tightens chassis up considerably. Reduces wheel hop/axle tramp too. It's all good really! oh.. It takes me about 10 days to get it done too.. so if no donor clutch available, car off road for 3-4 weeks realistically.
It sounds very interesting. Hopefully next year i'll be getting a 456 so i'll keep it in mind for the clutch change. Thnx
I can vouch for ferrarifixer's clutch kits. He rebuilt my 348 clutch back in Febuary this year and I am very very pleased with it. Exactly as he has mentioned about the shudder. Now I just have to give mine a little more throttle to get away, but its very minimal shudder. The pedal pressure still feels the same considering the heavy duty pressure plate it now has. Highly recommend this guys clutch's. Thanks again Phil....... Here is my 348 clutch now......... Image Unavailable, Please Login
