Posted this in UK forum, but probably better here. I have just bought a '94 manual and have a problem with the seats. The passenger seat only tilts forward to about 10 degrees before the vertical and much less than the drivers seat. The car is at the indie I purchased it from being sorted, but they have taken out both seats and now the driver seat has restricted tilt which reduces the more you operate it and the passenger seat does the same but in the opposite direction !!! Just wondering if there is a set-up procedue if the seats are removed or disconnected and if anyone could explain how the seat tilt works? I'm sure the indie will get it sorted but at the moment they seem a bit foxed by it ! On more positive note, I have just done around 1000 miles in it with my wife and son on holiday in northern France and it has been a superb car, surprising amount of luggage space, so quick and enjoyable to drive but in a very subtle and understated way. I think these cars are a real find and represent great value for money.

Got your PM. Well KHPC are one of the good guys in the industry so its in good hands. I'll ask a friend in the trade who works on a lot of 456s, maybe he has experienced something similar. I'll keep you posted.

Glad to see you are enjoying the 456. Im itching to get one myself! Be sure to post up pics!

this is not a regional issue, but experienced in almost all 456's, which BTW I am experiencing also.

There numerous sensors that are in the control loops. Quite a chore I understand to 'sort it out'. Have you tried a search on this site for similar talk on such, I recall seeing it mentioned a few times....sort of the window gap, valve guide, rear spoiler, bubbled environmental, issue scenarios.

I have searched and read up the 456 posts over the last few months whilst looking for a suitable car, but haven't found anything specific other then the seats being mentioned as an issue. The real pisser is this, that before I took the car back the driver seat was fine and the issue with the passenger seat was only a minor bug!! However the workshop guys will fix it, they are just talking to various people to get more info as there isn't much in the workshop manual about it. One thing seems to be that if you move the tilt controls with the seat back forward it can cause a problem as the gear that moves the seat back gets misaligned. However, I will post all the info when I get it fixed so that anyone else having the problem may be able to fix it.

All fixed now and back from the the indie dealer. Not sure how they re-set it/fixed it, but one thing we discovered is that if you operate the tilt buttons whilst the seat back is in the forward position i.e. not locked back, it moves the cogs that move the backrest and everything gets mis-aligned. It now looks like the drivers window is developing a slight gap!!! which I need to sort soon. will report my fix for that and post some pics soon.

Oh, [email protected] when you thought it was safe, ya' get another surprise...don't we all just love these little life issues.

PS: were your window upgrades ever done? I have a stat going that it's ALWAYS the driver's side window gap, doesn't matter if LHD or RHD, mine is LHD and I have a gap too. Check the top of the B pillar and make sure there is not pushing out of the leather beauty strip...pushing mine in and having that fixed greatly reduced the gap....but not entirely....passenger side = not a problem....

Took car in for cleaning yesterday: seat now is fixed to retract like normal.....must have been the cream they used :)

THanks for the update on what you were able to find,.....will be looking to see that issue for me too.

I just got my 550 from service as my seats were both broken. Mine didn't go forward or back. I thought it was potentiometer or something as I read here, but... just relays.

    They were fried.

maybe worth checking as they are the cheapest thing if it was borken.

Has anyone ever tried to back out (disconnect) some of the fancy electronics from the seats to minimize the potential for failure?
