Hoping someone can help. I recently purchased a 456 and have read all the threads on upgrading cambelts to tha later versions which have a longer life. The previous owner was not able to enlighten me as to what was installed. The receipt stated "replaced both cambelts with new Ferrari updated belts" and quotes 2 Cambelts (187744). Not sure if this is a part number or not.

    Thanks

    Hej,

the old belt seem to have a part no of 148515 according to Ferrari so I guess you have the new spec then.

Yup, new belts introduced on the 575M in early CY 2002 and replacing the earlier belts on all 456/M/550 65 deg V12s.

Thank you all for your advice.

Taz, have now found your other posts on the subject including the Factory Technical note. You comment in one of the threads that the tensioner bracket should also be changed. The previous invoice I have is silent on this point and does not list it as a part installed. I assume it would normally be listed (and charged) separately. As such would it be fair to assume that the tensioner was not also upgraded, or would this have been automatically done with the upgrade to the later belts. I know, a lot of guesswork, and probably should just get the existing ones replaced as it is 4 years albeit less than 6,000km ago when the previous owner replaced them.

Thanks again for all your wisdom on the site.

The tensioner bracket holds the tensioner pulley/bearing. If you look at this Ricambi ad, they actually offer a deal on both. I would guess your tensioner bearings were changed in the past, but the tensioner bracket is probably still the original. Next time you can make the change and the brackets are not that expensive. My personal opinion only is you then have a system good for five years, just like a 575.

My last belt change (before I owned the car), the belts were changed, but the tensioner pully/bearing was not, so I need to do that on my next change, probably next year.
