Im slowly working through the issues on my 97 456 GTA

Next one to tackle is the steering ignition

I have a strange problem with my car, when I turn off the key 90% of the time it will not fully turn off. I get the following occur.

    1. Most of the time the dash lights and bulbs go dim and the key is locked still in the barrel where im unable to remove it. So there is still power to the car but as mentioned the lights are all very dim.
    2. Same as above 'light all very dim, some power still on' but I hear the electro magnet click from under the ignition lock and I can remove the key ....however lights on dash still dim.
    3. For both the above two scenarios , I have left the car for several hours and the dash lights still remain dim. I have also used cut off switch and also removed power from battery again overnight and once reconnected the dash lights are relit dim, I think once they were fully out i.e reset.
    4. If I attempt to move the key to position 2 or 3 and fire the car up several times eventually the ignition will fully shut down ....all light will go out fully and the electro magnet unlocks and releases the key.
    5. I have removed the dash and steering column surround, reseated all of the connectors and inspected
    them.
    6. Battery is fully charged and has even been changed.

To me this seems like a dodgy ignition barrel. Im planning on taking this out and taking a closer inspection (have done so several times on my Testarossa spider as per thread) so no problem except very fiddly.

    Questions:
    1. Can anyone explain why only the GTA (not GT) version has this electro magnet device under the lock that enables key release, what is its function over the other car ? Not seen this on any of my other Ferraris ? (Number 65 in the parts diagram)

    2. Is the ignition barrel compatible with any other models ? I have a spare Testarossa barrel and key somewhere that I could plug in and see what happens if its the same.

    Any other ideas ?

    Cheers
    Scott
