Same $$(around $110k),'01 456 GTA with 6500 miles, records,TDF Blue with Daytona pkge tan + navy inserts and piping.
    New 997 Cab ,Tip,GT Silver (special color)Cocoa sp.order full leather,loaded,loaded.
Trading in my '04 S600 with everything Renntech and Kleemann had +some Brabus axtras.
My S is dropping in value like a stone,I'm trying to slow down the losses.
The replacement will be kept until Spring '06 to be replaced with DB9 Volante on order.
    Which car makes more sense?
    I'll appreciate anybody's input.

My pick would be a 456. It simply has more passion and feeling to me.

As depreciation is your motivation for selling your MB I would certainly not trade it for a 456 or the new Porsche. Either one would put you in the same position as your MB or possibly worse. Why not consider a preowned '05 Porsche Cab or '04 C4S Cab where someone else has already taken the hit and save yourself 10-20K?

A in a ferrari-name is never a good thing, even in the states i guess.
It will drop as well in value.
You should rather either keep the MB car, or as other people suggest, buy a used car that will keep its value better (maybe a 355 or so, that took already the big hit, or a GT3).

Why not look for a 996 Twin Turbo in same price range. You could probably get an 04 911 TT cabriolet for around $ 110k to $ 115k.

I almost traded my 04 996 twin turbo carbiolet for a 456. I was dissapointed with the 456 and decided against it after spending a day with it. I have not driven the 997 yet, but have owned several turbos (87 Ruf, 89 cab, 96, 2001, and 2004 cab) and had a few NA 911s, 88 CE, 90 Ruf, 993 cabriolet, 2004 996 and, to me, the 456 was comfy, sounded cool, but I would rather have any post 1995 911 for a driver.

The 456 felt a lot like Mercedes sports car to me. A little soft, not quick, and definitely more touring than sport feel.

If your daily driver, you can abuse a 911 TT daily and only have about $ 500 a year in service charges.

I still want a Ferrari and have decided to keep my Porsches and just go for a 355 or maybe a 360 for a garage queen.

After having '02 996 Cab, I don't want to go back to the previous gen.
997 is a lot better in all regards ,no used ones anywhere yet though.
Even a new one is hard to find, this particular happened to be available because of the client's dispute with the dealer.
The car is supposed to be my daily driver,at least till Fall ,when the M5 arrives.
My MB dealer (no connection with Porsche) told me my car was worth mid 80's now,in late Fall ,after everyone sees the new S,could drop to 50's-60's.
Porsche is expecting a 5-7% price increase soon, which could help retain the value.

I personally would get neither, as I find it sacreligious to buy automatic porsches and ferraris. they deserve better.:)

it all depends though, do you want a cruiser, or a sports car?
