I viewed that car over the holidays, it’s in very nice shape. I agree with the article, the 456 is an affordable way to join the V12 club. And it just so happens to be a great GT car. Of course, owning an M GTA, I’m a bit biased....
That’s a number I’ve seen before, usually quoted from Wikipedia. I think it includes all four variants; GT, GTA, M GT, and M GTA. Cavallino claims 402 GTs. Forza claims 1338 Ms. I’ve seen claims of 668 M GTAs Carbon, a member here, compiled these numbers: 456: 1,936 (402 auto); 202 RHD, 61 auto. 456M: 1271 (631 auto); 171 RHD, 139 auto. I think you’re in the ballpark. Perhaps Taz or Marcel has more accurate figures.
The rear bumper on the BaT car is misaligned. It simply needs adjustment. I’m guessing they’re more expensive to fix and maintain. My M GTA has been very reliable since I purchased it and got it sorted.
The 400/412 have been on the rise in recent times, so they may be more or less comparable to 456s when we’re talking about automatics. I don’t have any hard data, but I believe manual 400/412s are more expensive than manual 456s - they’re certainly much rarer. Owning both a 412 and a 456 (both manuals), this has not been my experience. Starting with a well sorted car (a key thing for both models), it’s about the same cost to keep them on the road with the 412 being perhaps a bit less since it does not require belt service.
I have owned two manual 412s and currently have a 456 manual. They are light years apart, but pricing is probably pretty similar. The most expensive is probably a mint 456M manual, but otherwise the pricing is similar for cars in similar condition. As an example, in 2017, I sold my low mileage 412 for twice what I paid for my high mileage 456 a few months earlier. The 456 is a driver with some issues to be corrected. I agree with Ruben that the 412 is probably cheaper to maintain because it doesn't require expensive belt services.
[QUOTE="the 456 is an affordable way to join the V12 club. .[/QUOTE] Yes - but probably the most affordable way to join the V12 club is with a DB7 or DB9...
A 456 manual has been my dream car for more than 20 years and it looks like now is the time to jump. I'm looking for a nice manual. Blue is my preference but open to options as long as it's not yellow and/or lexus powered. Anyone taken a look at the one currently listed at Denver Bentley?
I have it’s a nice car, I spoke with Derek. Call him and he can get you the history. If you like green the one on Chicago at Gold Coast is an amazing value. I spoke with Tom.
The blue one would be my first choice but I do really like the BRG. Seems slightly off to have something that not's British in BRG but the 456 is about being a bit more low profile and that's a lot of the draw for me. What makes the BRG one an amazing value? I saw it's on eBay for $73K. I also saw this one at Carriage Motor Cars https://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/cars-for-sale/ferrari/456m-gt/1933418.html Sorry for the dumb questions but I'm a long time admirer of Ferraris but have never come close to owning one until now.
I retract my last statement. Value is in the eye of the beholder. Given what I have been reading here a car with condition and mileage such as the green car should range from 65 to 70. The blue one, call Derek at the dealership he can give you the run down, however the blue one is more of a driver whereas the green one could be more of a driver/collectible in my opinion.
I just looked at both of them. They both look like nice cars, but I agree with Jdomeck that the green one looks nicer. Best to see both in person if you can.
I missed the green one at Carriage House Motorcars. Just looked at it. Last I heard they wanted $120k or something for it. I am a big fan of the M over the original 456 (even though I own an original 456), but I am not sure its worth paying double or almost double for an M. All three of them look very nice.
No, sorry. Didn't mean that I looked at them in person. I just looked at the pictures. I bought my car almost 2 years ago so I am not in the market just commenting on the pictures.
No worries, imagine with all the cold in Chicago would not make for pleasent trip. 2 year ago looks like a good time to jump in.
The BRG one in Chicago is listed on eBay for $73K and looks like it's not going anywhere fast while the Blue one in Denver is $84K. Just judging by the pictures the BRG one presents significantly better but obviously has higher mileage. The blue one has noticeable flaws even in the low res pictures. I know this is completely subjective but indulge someone who has never been in the F world. Where is a reasonable place to start on these, based on the pictures and specs?
@CaptainPicard - just sent a PM. I’m considering putting my 1995 456 GT up for sale and shared details on the car. Not sure if you will have enough postings to reply via PM (I believe there’s some sort of limit), but I left my phone number as well. Ruben
