Hello - I am having issues with my 456 - the O2 sensors and ECU are not communicating - local mechanic says all wiring is in great shape - O2 sensors test positive outside of the car and are brand new Ferrari sensors - some reason won’t reset so the check engine light stays on and cannot pass smog - any suggestions ? I am in monterey Ca - thank you

well when checked it will throw some codes that the reader will display... there are 4 O2 sensors. the reader should be able to clear them and then they might come back....

my guess is your getting the slow to respond codes and if you have that in addition to the p1625 (?) code your going to have a hard time getting them gone for good.

first you need to determine which o2 code you are getting as i dont know how many diff codes there are for 02 sensors ...

also, are you able to clear the codes/check engine light and how fast does it come back on ?

my experience with the o2 code "02 sensor is slow to respond" is the the car doesnt like that o2 sensor and to try swapping it out even though it tests ok or is new.

but if you are also getting that p1625 code which apparently is some sort of CAN-BUS computer communication code you may be out of luck as i have heard stories of dealers not being able to track down the cause

are you getting any misfire codes as well ?

the electronics are getting old in these cars and it may be something that youll have to live with or send your car to denver to have the gold kit retrofit by dave helms

You need to get a scanner and see what the specific codes are.

How does he know that the oxygen sensors are not communicating with the ECU's? Good diagnostic computers allow you to check oxygen sensor function by looking at their voltages as the engine is running and even perform data acquisition where one can graph the operation of all of the oxygen sensor voltages. This allows you to see if the front sensors are cycling back and forth across stoichiometric and if the rear sensors have a flat signal (indicating that the catalytic converter are functioning properly).
If he is stumped from simple oxygen sensor function, perhaps it is time for him to get a proper Ferrari specific diagnostic computer, or for you to get a new mechanic.
