I sold my 550 recently.. since I moved back to NJ, had no place to keep it, it was winter..excuses excuses.

Assume I'll be driving the car 10-12k miles per year, frequently in and out of NY City, I'm thinking a 456 would make more sense on the roads around here versus another 500 (Also the fact that they seem to be a lot less expensive is a bonus).

Maintinence I assume is about the same.

    Thoughts?

Pretty much as reliable as any BMW, but not like a Honda. Most problems seem to stem from lack of use. I think of the 456 as a demure 550 with back seats and a tremendous value to boot.

    Thanks guys! :)

Hopefully it'll be as reliable as my 00 550, that car put the creaky 740iL I have to shame. It is a lot more comfortable.. esp when you're nearly 6'3" and chubby like me :)

How are the 95-96s? Ive seen some that were just amazingly cheap....

    Check again.

I'm no expert on that model, but my previous F-car owner was looking to get one and was absolutely stunned at the list of problem areas related to that car as opposed to others. From window lift alignments to mysterious cracked windshields, please do much more research before you jump. My informant then gave up on owning a 456.

    Best!
