    ok, Drivers seat has decided to stop moving forwards when opening it for rear passengers. Otherwise electrics are fine including moving drivers seat forwards and backwards when the engine is on.

    Any ideas what the fault is likely to be?

    a) Relay
    b) Seat ECU
    c) Something else

    Advice appreciated.

    Solved my own problem by reading deeper into the 456 forum. Thanks for all the advice posted on seat issue which appears very common. This is the first time my 99 456M has had any seat issue. One poster, also with an M said it periodically happens to him so turn off the battery isolater switch and then back on to reboot the seat system. Did that and it's working fine again. Cheapest car repair ever :)
