it is defintley a BUYER'S market. this one just went for..... $66K. Unreal. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...2473707235&rd=1
That's about highish wholesale on one actually. Once every couple of months I see them at auction (I sell cars, not Ferraris though..), and they do low-mid 60s. It was a deal, but then such is eBay.
The 456M is very tempting at the low prices - nice ones can be had a half the original sticker of 230,000.00. Has anyone here bought one new and then gone back to the dealer to trade it in? How does the dealer keep a staright face when he tells you what it is now worth? Did the dealer give you any warning when you bought it new?
How about the people that bought new 745Lis in 2002 for nearly $80,000 only to be told that they are barely worth $40k today? It could be far worse. Besides, has any 2+2 Ferrari ever had strong resale? If I recall, back when they were new the Mondials dropped far faster than 38s, 328s, TRs, etc..
2+2's have always been more expensive new, but depreciated harder. Most 2+2 buyers are not price sensitive and don't have the hard core enthusiasts mindset to keep the car longterm.
i'm not sure the 2+2 buyers are any less hardcore ferrari fans or lack the longterm interest in the cars-the problem is that most buyers-especially used buyers are looking for the wickedly fast ferrari experience, not the take long trips in comfort and high speed experience. We can't really use these cars (456) as designed in the USA anyway, while you can still have fun on track days with a 355. The used buyer with 80K would rather have a red 355 than a dark green 456 with a back seat.
i'll try the link again: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6212&item=2473707235&rd=1 it was a 95 with 22k miles. gun metal gray with tan interior. 6 speed. from the pics it looked beautiful and well kept.
The link worked this time. Thanks. Maybe the ridiculously high mileage was to blame -- yet another reason for garage queeners to keep their Ferraris cooped up!
Mileage wasn't that ridiculous. I actually really wanted this car and kept my eye on it for the entire auction. Yet another one slips through the cracks... Just give me a few more years.
"Mileage wasn't that ridiculous. " Agreed - I was being sarcastic. Nine year old Ferraris would be required to have at least 45K miles on them if I ran the world!
What an absolutely beautiful car. Perfect color combination for that body, which is extremely pretty. Someone got a great deal. --Dan
Noticed in all the pics that the windows are down. Early 456s can be prone to bad sealing windows which are costly to make right. So who knows??
