am looking at 456 gta. it suits me because of the heavy traffic i will have to navigate in london. however, i have heard that these transmissions were fragile and that repairs were unbelievably expensive. the thought occurred to me that in case of some kind of tranny failure, that it might be easier to drop in a 6 speed instead of replacing the automatic. is this feasible or also prohibitively expensive?

We don't see many failures here in the UK, the only downside is that Ferrari recommend replacing the fluid and filters every year, which takes about 5 - 6 hours plus the cost of the filters and oil - I guess if you skip the oil / filter change there is more risk to the gearbox.

Anything can be converted, but as you say it would definately be cost prohibited in this case.

    Ross,

We are located in Thorpe, Egham, Surrey - about 15 minutes from the M25 junction 13. Rardley Motors are an independent with lots of experience and are well regarded in Ferrari circles. Don't know anything about "the ferrari centre"
