Has anyone ever done this or had their dealer or shop service the gearbox? Its supposed to be done every 3 years but with the small number of auto boxes on the small number of US cars, I imagine that most dealers have no experience let alnone the specialist shops.

Any pointers or references would be appreciated.

I don't own a 456, but, I would imagine that it is just a change of the automatic transmition fliud. On some makes all you have to do is drain it and refill. On others you have to drop the bottom pan, and clean out the screen. I don't see why this couldn't be done at home.

I would agree. There is nothing in the maintenance manual but one dealer has told me that they believe the tranny has to be removed to do anything!! really hard to believe but then it is an F car...
