Hi I have a RHD 456Gt auto 1997 and i have the ABS light on.
it turns on when the speed reaches about 20MPH.
Has anyone any ideas on how to interogate the ECU, if you can?
someone mentioned getting the ABS light to flash to show a fault code.

    Any help would be great.
    Many thanks
    Paul

I have the exact same problem as above poster on my '94 456GT.
As I have had the whole system apart the problem can be pretty much everywhere. Wheel sensors are particularly suspect but I can't find anything obvious.
Luckily the system is said to come with a very handy built-in self test which should help identify the faulty components. But how?
The ATE unit is fitted with two empty (test?) connectors; one of which has two (heavy gauge) wires while the other has 3 wires.

Anyone with suggestions on how to activate the self test/diagnose system?

    Thanks!
    Bart

    Sorry for the faint print.

Once you have the code, let me know. There are too many to show here.

I guess the jumper should be put on the two pin plug (?). A fuse is used on the F348 as a jumper.

    Thanks Ian,
You suggested the fuse before but I didn't dare to short the two pin plug yet. I had hoped to get some confirmation from someone with a similar arrangement who had tried this before.
Will let you know the results.

Not a direct answer, but here are some docs on Teves ABS from Ford and Alfa which might help someone else.

Taz's first file shows the fault codes.

Can you see if one of the wires on that 2-pin connector go to earth and the other to pin 23?

Thanks for these documents and I will check to see if one of the wires on the 2-pin connector is connected to pin 23.

The Ford document had an unexpected warning:
A fine point to be aware of though is that only the correct speed sensor can be installed at each wheel location. If you decide to get replacements from the junkyard, make sure you mark the sensors front to back and left to right and only install the sensor at it’s proper point in the system.
Although I can't quite see why that is, I am not sure I haven't accidentally exchanged front left/right as I had both sensors in a box while working on the front end of the car.

@franschman did you ever figure out the problem? My 1995 456GT has started popping on the ABS light at about 10mph and then it stays on till I turn off the ignition. When restarted my ABS light stays off till I roll forward greater than 10 mph.....

The WSM (unfortunately) does say this:

"4- ABS warning light operates normally on start up, then instead of staying off, comes back on at over 5mph (8kp/h): probably internal failure of the self-diagnosis circuit ECU"

The bold letters are Ferrari's, not mine.

Yes my problem was solved in the end. But I really don't remember how.
