    456 GT 10.0 liters/10.5 qts engine, 5.0 liters/5.25 qts transaxle

456M's tranaxle held an extra liter of 75W-90.

Have the 456 GT OM in soft copy if you need one.

What do you reckon about 5W-50 oil for engine?Considering i'm living in area of hot temperatures.

I would stick with a good 5W-40 or 0W-40 fully synthetic, as recommended. I run Valvoline 5W-40 fully synthetic in mine, and Mobil 1 5W-40 European Formula, Redline 5W-40, and Royal Purple 5W-40 are all good choices.

The trend now is to lighter weight oils because the synthetics are so good the heavier weight oils are not needed on modern engines.

Make sure and change out your coolant every 2-3 years.

+1. Same here. FWIW, I was stuck in a fair amount of stop-and-go traffic in 90 degree + weather this summer and the oil temp never got to the 12 o'clock position. I see no need for a 50w oil.

Terry, I made it 12 litres, including filters & oil cooler. I usually put in 10 litres, then warm up to check level - as per the OM, then add the remaining to get the level right. PITA, because I can only buy the oil in 5 litre containers - so I need 3!

For the gearbox, add 1/2 litre if you want to flush the oil cooler & lines- this for a non-M model.

Dave- Funny you should mention that. My 575M took 12.5 qts to fill the last oil change and calls for 10.5. Almost sounds like the fill is to the minumum mark.

LOL, Well, I guess that shows how much weight my comments carry!

When measuring the oil level be sure to do it:
    1. after the car has been brought up to operating temperature; and
    2. IMMEDIATELY after shutting off the engine.

Allan- I was wishfully thinking it might have been a typo.

If the subject matter was telecommunications law, I might have been offended, but I can't hold myself out as an expert mechanic, let alone of Ferraris, only an "informed consumer." So I can't be upset if my advice is blown off. BTW, The largest engine I've ever stripped down and put back together was a .35 c.i. two stroke model aircraft engine.
