Just finished redoing the dash in my 456M…I took the dash apart and put it back together myself. I followed the steps from this link:

    https://www.ferrarista.club/forum-ferrari/forums/topic/14074-démontage-tableau-de-bord-456m/

While it’s in French, you can translate the entire website to English using Google translate. I have a translated English PDF version (it’s too big to attach) I’ll be happy to share…just send me a PM with your email.

Here are the quotes I received:

    Dealership $12-15K doing everything
Upholstery Shop 1: $7K doing everything or $4K if you bring the dash to them.
Upholstery Shop 2 & 3: $2.3K if you bring the dash to them.
*** all upholstery shops are experienced with Ferraris. The leather hides are the same as what Ferrari uses.

    My cost:

    Upholstery Shop: $2,300
    Pop Rivet Gun: $35
    Various Self Adhesive Foams: $30
    JB Weld Plastic Bonder: $8
    Bottle of Scotch: $130
    Feeling Accomplished: Priceless

It took about 8 hours taking it apart and 5 hours to put it back together. When the dash was at the upholstery shop (4 days), I fixed all the sticky parts, re-foamed all the areas except for the vent flap inserts and repaired the defroster trim which broke into 3 pieces. FYI, you don’t need to remove the steering wheel. Having never done this before, it wasn’t easy but it’s absolutely manageable. Take your time, take pictures and label all the bolts and screws.

Based on your signature block is it safe to assume the prices you shared were NY or LI or NJ area?

I love this and am grateful for the share.

My 1995 456GT dash is at a Phoenix upholstery shop now. $2500 is best I could get. Got quotes of $5k and $3800 as well. 5k shop said 10-12k with R&R. WTF!

Most shops do not do dash boards. Shop I am using has a TR in for total reupholster that gave me some confidence.

My quotes include the binnacle. Did you get that done too?

What foam did you use under dash?

I see you spent your savings on scotch:).

The foam and glue under the dash were applied by the upholstery shop. I saw 3M Blue pressure sensitive glue and Gorilla on their shelf and the foam was a thin rolled up type.

    Yes, price included instrument binnacle.

Scotch was Glenmorangie 18…and per my wife it helped in minimize profanities that were flying out of my mouth that she heard in the bedroom. Lol.

Great job man. And great job on the price hunting. I think you did fine work for that money. You should treat yourself to a second bottle of scotch just for the accomplishment! Thanks for the share.
