Haven't seen this discussed, and I was unable to locate such topic in the search.

I always wonder why the 612 forum is linked with the 599 forum when they really have less in common than similar. Is this a true statement?

Is the engine in the 612 more related to the 575 and/or 456M? Would owning a 612 be the greatest extension on desiring a 456, but with paddle shifting?

How and or where does the 612 engine evolve from the 575/456?

    Appreciate the feedback.

    Happy Holidays

The 612 has an all aluminum chassis and body, like the 599, and the suspension is similar, with shim adjustments for camber vs eccentrics for the earlier V12s. Both have a more modern interior and alarm system than their predecessors. The 612 has an updated version of the 575M engine (same 5748 cc displacement) and the 575M has an updated version of the 550 engine. The 456 has a similar engine without the dual length intake tracts and hydraulic lifters of the 550-612 engines. Starting with the 550, all the engines from the 550-612 are part of the Type F133 engine family. The 456 engines are from the F116 family of 65 degree V12s.

No, the 612 is not like a 456M with paddle shifters. 2950 mm wheelbase for the 612 and 2600 mm for the 456/456M.

Go to ferraridatabase.com and download owners manuals for the various models in question and you can see the similarities and differences.

A 612 is substantially larger (5.5" overall length, over a foot longer wheelbase, taller and wider, too), faster and more modern than the 456M. A different experience.

I have both- and as the two gentleman just said, they are vastly different

I was to trade my 456 on the 612, but after my 612 arrived, I realized I had newer technology, but the 612 could not displace my admiration for the 456. So I kept both

The two cars are both worthwhile if you have an affinity for 2+2's. Seems like you are considering a 612.

Prices have bottomed on them and they're a lot of car for the money. If you can find an OTO car or later, then they really shine.

Couldn't agree more with what Moe posted. 612s are fairly recent and modern. You can see and feel a huge difference between both. From 1992 (456's launch) to 2004 (612's launch), a lot has changed. Over here you can now get your hands on a nice 612 for less than 6 figures, which I find very good value. You get a lot of car for the money you spend.

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

I remember the 612 as being very alive, very fun, possibly even more so than some 2 seaters. 456 much more sedate by comparison but very classy, seductive. For some reason reminded me of a Brit sports car like a Bentley or an Aston. You have to want the 612s dimensions and shape. 599 completely different beast, much faster, I found it lacked engagement. Almost too perfect.
