Who here has upgraded the OEM electric radiator fan to a newer Spal model? While I have the radiators out during my upcoming major, I want to swap upgraded fans. I would like to source the needed fan parts now for ideally as clean an upgrade as possible (i.e. least amount of modifications/cutting up). If you upgraded your fans, which Spal model did you use? Any cutting/modifications to fit the uprated Spal in the housing/shroud? What other parts/and accessories did you also need? My OEM Water/coolant Radiator Fan assembly is OEM PN 155064 and my oil Radiator Fan is OEM PN 155063. Looking at the parts catalogue, both appear to have fan sizes unique only to the 456 (but shared between the GT and M). If it matters, my 1999 456M uses radiator PN 165599 and the earlier oil cooler PN 164616. I am also using the improved cooling bypass harness from MSW made by our very own @Aerosurfer. Appreciate the guidance.
I have 575 fan shrouds I don’t need if you want them, they’re the ones everyone wants for efficient cooling
This should be the correct fan. It was installed on my 2000 456M at the same time as a Ron Davis radiator. I had already installed the Aerosurfer harness. https://proshop.summitracing.com/parts/SPU-IX-30102113
I have a 95 456GT (not M) A quick look under the hood looks like the fans are two different sizes anyone have info. ?
There are two “radiators” next to one other other; the larger is the actual water/cooler radiator and the smaller is the oil cooler. The oil cooler has a smaller fan. Both fans are unique to the 456 and are shared between the GT and M.
This is one of the differences between the 456 & the 550/575M. Ferrari in their infinite wisdom decided to change the fan configuration between the models, however I thought one of the "Mods" they made in the 456M was to use the 550's radiator setup, including its fans, which was inadequate for the 550 anyway and was finally fixed in the 575M.
I replaced just the radiator fan. My oil temps are always lower than I think is best, barely hot enough to boil off moisture. Yes, as I recall the oil cooler fan is smaller. I haven't driven the car in the summer yet, but indications are the system is now up to the job. The radiator and fan were replaced at the same time, so I don't have the metrics on how each affected the upgrade.
When you replaced the OEM radiator with the Ron Davis one, did you send them your OEM radiator and they built theirs to match? In the past it's been this way with the Ron Davis radiators. And did it mate up OK with the OEM oil cooler?
Ron Davis was sent specific measurements on the old radiator. It did take them a month or so. The main problem with the fitment was the hardware. The way one bracket fits at an angle makes it difficult. It took some time and some different bolts and spacers.
I ordered: Spal 16" Puller type fan (30102113) Spal 16" Fan Shroud Gasket (30130074) Will post update later but given it just started snowing here, it likely wont be a while.
