Ricambi is quoting about $13k+ 65285000 CPL FRT HOOD.456 M : Ricambi America

It's $ 20,052.96 if you want to upgrade with shields

I saw a thread, 'somewhere' ;), showing a Japan 456 company [he does 456's a lot] repairing the hood: He did a fine job, just not CF, but rather a mixture of FG and some other element.

Somehow just the fix, respray to make sure it matches might be a bigger consideration.

My comment as well- i would have thought that fit and finish will be harder than general repair of a composite structure. I thought I read somewhere that the 456M bonnet weighs 6 kgs. Or there-abouts and by now there's a lot of great body guys who should be able to do this on a non structural component.

Then again it is a Ferrari! Best wishes for sure.

It's true that CF doesn't repair like new. Not the same as crystal but never the less, it's not the same. I have one (no shields) that has very little damage around the bolt holes for the latch that can probable be easily fixed with fiberglass. I think we will see more and more small fixes this way as the original is expensive.

Here's an interesting thought. A $50K car with a $15K part. Oh my. A salvage car damaged in the rear may actually become attractive.

Guys, I design aerospace composite repairs for a living - I can assure you that carbon composite can be repaired as easily as old fashioned FG and polyester resin. However, Kevlar is another story and can be a royal PITA.

Getting the strength & stiffness back won't be a problem, but getting the right profile (shape) could be the showstopper. If it needs a profile tool (mould) made, it is probably going to be too expensive, so a replacement part would be the cost effective option.

I don't know who you've spoken to about the repair - but I'd be inclined to talk to people who specialise in modern race car repairs (carbon tubs), GA aircraft or gliders or high end racing sailboats - I'm trying to speak 'merican here.

How about some photos? might be able to suggest something.

I didn't know that. I learned something today.

The one I have that is busted around the holes for the hood latch is probably a good fix candidate then.

Daniel, your hood should be fiberglass: why do you say it cannot be fixed?

Daniel I work with a fiberglass specialist that does a lot of custom work: if you want we can have him look at your hood and hear what he has to say.
BTW, what's the deal with the name Papou?

I have been told the hoods are interchangeable. There was a time the M was being considered with the older hood scoop, which if the M had I would have taken over the older GT.

I don't think so, at least not so the adjoining surfaces would look like they matched; the M hood is more V-like when viewed from the top; the 456GT has a flatter arc.

Still searching, Such a shame insurance wants to total the car because of the hood cost.
I have been Tifosi my whole life, I just can't understand killing a masterpiece because of
the price of the hood, I use the word masterpiece because its a Ferrari.
Trying to get the price down to $11.000 from two of are sponsors.

The good news, Luc Grodin body shop in south florida found a hood from a
car in Arizona, The question I have is what to do with the damaged hood,
Is there a market out there for damaged Ferrari parts.

There is always a market. Cost of shipping would be the killer IMO.

Dan, here is an idea. Do a temp cheap fix on the hood so you can drive is this summer. Look around the 3 e-bay sites for a 456M hood( US,Great Britain, Germany)-they do come up frequently usually for $3,500. When it does, then make it your permanent fix.
