I need a little quick help, before utter frustration sets in ! The Owner's Manual may help, but I can't lay my hands on it yet. Left the 456M in the remote Garage for 3 WEEKS ! (Forgot to either hook up the battery tender, or use the on-board battery-off switch.) 1) 3-month old battery is now of-course essentially dead. 2) I inserted what may be a key for a different 456. 3) Press the remote to unlock the ignition. 4) Alarm sounds. 5) Car will NOT release the key. 6) Car sits unattended with the key in the ignition, and doors unlocked......... Any helpful or humorous thoughts ? Thanks in advance ? Scott
Had exactly the same problem with mine. Luckily mine is in the garage locked away with the radiators out, so no chance of getting the car out. I presume mine was stuck as my car was in neutral. Is yours in park? If not can you get it into park?
Solved ! 1) Switch battery switch to off position. 2) Apply strong(er) charger to bring up battery. 3) leave 60 minutes. 4) Remove charger. 5) turn on battery switch 6) Ignition switch releases (wrong) key and remote. 7) Use correct key to do the usual "twice beep" 8) Alarm turns off. 9) Engine starts, runs and charges. 10 Turn battery back off. 11) Re-apply low-amp charger. 12) Frustration lessens...........
Funny you mention this. About a week ago I was at a dealer about to test drive a Quattroporte. The battery was dead, so the key got stuck in the ignition. In order to jump it they needed to open the trunk, which they needed the key for (and they had no spare). They said they'd call me when they had it running again... haven't gotten a call yet.
This is a common occurrence when the battery is low. Best to not even try to start the car if you suspect a flat battery, especially in a GTA. You can skip all the charging time if you get a jump box. I keep one topped off and in my trunk. A lesson I learned when I got a dead cell in a battery. Jumping from a running car is not a good idea with a Ferrari. Cheers, George
