During the the past 4 months I have noticed that there are hardly any 456's for sale compared to other Ferrari models and especially the manual versions are become very rare. They have also increased in price.

That is possibly a normal seasonal effect, not many people buying or selling sportscars and classic cars over the winter. Wait until spring and summer to see for sure. I wouldn't be surprised to see prices rise when denominated in our recently very devalued currencies... :(

Can't belive, that price for the 456 increased. This really may be a seasonal or local effect.

612 getting cheaper, especially in Italy there are some nice 612 priced to sell because of the new taxation for cars with more than 250 ps. This affects prices overall in Europe.

and there are only 3 456's presently on Ebay, none of them manuals. So all the manuals have been snapped up and kept.

eBay isn't the only place to buy Ferraris.

I don't even look for 456s, and I've noticed 4-5 for sale this month. Autosport Design and Fantasy Junction had a few.

456s will probably depreciate on the usual cycle over 20-25 years.

I agree the automatics seem to suffer a bit in the market, probably due to their reputation for being hard to repair.

I have been to most of the popular places to sell high performance sports cars and overall there are only a small number available compared to a number of years ago. I have also noticed prices creeping up especially in Europe.

I think most of the 456s and 456Ms have received better maintenance than, say, the earlier 365 GT4 2+2-412 series cars. I would have expected the prices to level out somewhat, and that seems to be happening. More for the manuals (most 456s were manuals, 79%, and the 456Ms were about 50/50) than the automatics. The automatics have been pretty reliable, too, though.

+1. I've had to deal with a number of issues over the past four years, but none related to the auto trans. Just made sure that recommendations were followed during the regular maintenance cycle. 48,000+ miles. Smooth shifts and strong power delivery.

Is there really greater demand for the 456 now compared to 10 years ago?
    I don't think so.
However, I am sure that there is a smaller supply of cars. 456's are going to be more rare and the remaining supply shrinks due to crashes and owners unwilling to pay the costs of repair and maintenance.

I have owned a 308, Testarossa, 355 and now a 456 and in my experience they all have had there fair share of high running costs, however if you buy one that has been well looked after, you should have no problems.

10 years ago you could still buy a new one... :D

Prices have indeed leveled out so it seems. With inflation, they will simply have to at a certain point, and then reverse. I bought a nice BMW E9 12 years ago for about 3000 euro, now you can only buy scrap for that money and nice ones are triple that. 456's will probably hover around this level for quite a while until they get rarer from crashes, being parted out and getting snapped up by collectors; then prices may rise, but even then it's not so much the price going up as it is the value of paper money going down.

MG- They were very expensive 10 years ago. I do not think anybody thinks the demand is going up, just that the prices have leveled off somewhat. There are fewer cars now than there were 10 years ago, attrition being what it is. We are seeing the same thing in the 550s, with good ones overlapping with 575M prices.
