The software upgrade thrashed my instrument cluster. Dealer won’t admit any problems. Was messy. Do you have aftermarket video inputs? That is what they blamed my mission. Good luck.

How long after you had the recall did your cluster go bad?

I was able to get my Green Wrench off by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes.

Immediately I guess it was at dealer for a few weeks then moved to an audio shop who noticed it wasn’t working.

OK, immediately. Why was it at the dealer for a few weeks then moved to an audio shop who noticed it wasn't working? Something stinks here. For the audio shop to notice it tells me 2 things, if the audio shop did notice the problem, the audio shop CAUSED the problem or something was caused at the dealer when it was there for 2 WEEKS (Why would you let your car stay there for 2 weeks?). With my recall, after I got my notice I took it in and their computer was down in Italy so I had to come back, no big deal. Came back a few weeks later and they performed the recall very quickly (recall was a joke anyway) and the car was perfect before and after the work was performed. No issues whatsoever. PS I am confused who the original poster of the complaint is. Saw someone named Jacksal and yourself.

My take with the recall was that I took the time and effort to bring in the car, but ended up with the green wrench and turn signal malfunction. Consequently, I have bring the car in for the second time.

Turn signal malfunction seems like a mechanical breakdown coincidetally happened at that moment, but green wrench must be due to software update.

You didn't answer the question, "Why was your car at the dealership for 2 weeks?" Also, as you said a blown out cluster is a far cry from a green wrench and turn signal malfunction. But first, why was it there for 2 weeks. A lot can happen in 2 weeks, most of it NOT GOOD. And oh, that software update did not affect anything to trigger a green wrench But if it did, the tech would have seen that when he updated the software and corrected it which is simple to do.

Aftermarket software and/or hardware will absolutely cause a problem when performing the recall.

Did you tell the Dealership that you had aftermarket bits on your Ferrari beforehand?
Did you even know you had aftermarket items on your Ferrari?
It's possible you didn't know, neither would they, doesn't make it their fault.
In my personal experience over-seeing several hundred campaigns, the ones that go South are the ones where aftermarket items were not mentioned, overlooked, or otherwise installed on a Ferrari...
Which in turn caused the cluster to " brick " during the software update.

Green wrench, was the service due?

The video upgrade had not been done yet when the brake recall stuff was done at the dealer. IF there had been any previous aftermarket stuff other than a stereo amp and pre amp, radar and laser installation done to the car, I was unaware of any additional aftermarket installations. The car was at the dealer for an inop HVAC plenum motor and controller, and brake recall and a new key attempt, but there was a 6 wk back log to get the parts. I am 90 miles away from the dealer, and I had an appointment at an audio shop for add on enhancements so I told the dealer to move the car to the audio shop in the interim while waiting for the parts from Italy. All parties agreed on the plan. The audio shop gets the car in pieces, no dash airbag lights on, glove box inop (missing ) and dash out. at that time he sent out the cluster for video input mods for front and rear camera and apple car play. Car went back to dealer after that for completion of the HVAC work and possibly the brake recall was done at that time. ( I don't know when for sure) Its a new dealer and a young workforce and I don't think they had ever seen a recall trash an instrument cluster.Dealer determined that glove box switch and airbag lights were all controlled through the cluster and they couldn't fix it and claimed nothing they did caused any of the apparent present problems. It got to be a messy situation with me in the middle and no one claiming any fault. We ultimately had a 3 way meeting and as gentlemen explained everything, had the cluster sent out for FAI for repairs and then sent back for a repeat video input setup as originally planned. We split 3 ways everyone's alleged overages and charges and it was worked out amicably with no one claiming fault. I don't know what in hell happened but I was without the car for 6 months but now it has been completed and I am able to drive it and enjoy it. It's all good with everyone now. Not a good situation to be in that's for sure. Sure don't want that type of ordeal ever again. I hope this clears up other's criticism of leaving it at the dealer etc etc. They weren't there and every situation is different.

Is there any update on this?

Has anyone who has had the new cap since the recall experienced issues with brake failure like those previously described on this and various other threads?

Most people never experienced brake failure before the fix so I wouldn't expect much news

A friend of mine had a massive failure and almost died in a Challenge car and has suit filed. Similar issue, brakes went soft, pedal to the floor and he is lucky to be alive. Ferrari refuses to take resonsibility so the suit goes on. Problem for Ferrari is he is not the only one but they do a good job of keeping it under the radar.

Soft brakes and pedal to the floor sounds like a completely different issue to the complaints which were of hard pedal and brakes not working. Seems impossible to get consistent or reliable info about this potential issue!

It is all related to some extent. For what its worth you don't have this issue with other exotics, certainly not with the race versions. There is flaw somewhere in the design, I couldn't tell you what though.

I forgot all about the brake recall. I had mine done at around 6k miles. I now have 9k miles and brake are always fine no issues.

That post was more than two years ago and prior to most cars having had the recall take place, so doesn't really answer my question.

It was obvious from the beginning to me that the whole thing was total BS brought about by a few that had a problem that they most likely brought on themselves. Challenge car for example......well what the hell do think that guy was doing to his brakes and is lucky he didn't die. Nobody really ever catelogued a failure other than complaining of one. I never saw any concrete evidence of one but there are always some apples in the bushel that create this stuff. But, I went throught the motions and had my cap replaced....total joke.

sure didn't take you long to show your intellect. There has not been ONE posting of ANY brake problems after this debacle went away and it was a total farce. Why is that, no one has complained. In fact, they didn't complain even when this was in full tilt joke. Just a couple of dufuss'es that don't know how to use brakes, especially that guy in the Challenge car that should have known better.....the brakes in my Speciale are PERFECT...always have been and I suspect always will be. Adios.
