Be careful with this vendor: https://www.ebay.com/str/gtautoparts I purchased a pair of rears and had them installed by my local garage. They installed fine and I could feel a slight variation with/out bumpy road. Issue arose 18 months later, when the dashboard displayed "Suspension control system failure". Following an OBD scan, the active code was C1203 (Left rear coil shock absorber) and the live data showed <1% damping level on that absorber. I contacted the seller and although they acknowledged this defect was within their quoted 2-year warranty, their "solution" was to offer me a replacement... for USD200, which is essentially their replacement cost. Buyer beware: their warranty stands for nothing. Yes, these are significantly cheaper than the OEMs, but you'll potentially have to change them every two years. In my case, less than 2,000km/1,200mi. Anyone figure out the differences between any other ebay shocks or is everyone just ordering from gtautoparts?
working w/ them now - as of today 2/29/24, their "replacement" does not fit and is not the same spec as stock. Their shock is 1" too short, and the bushing at the bottom is not rubber like factor. Also their shock does not have the lip for the lower sleeve of the coil housing. I will let everyone here know the end results and their factory oem rebuild might not work for 2009-2014 California w/ Magen-ride shocks. Also the "threading" at the top was not the same size and my 2 factors nuts would not fit.
I hate to hear this. I suppose I should have disclosed that I did not have any experience with their service.
Hi everyone, has anyone used this shock rebuilder to rebuild 458 shocks? If so, how are they? Thanks.
I have not used the one in Fort Lauderdale (check their reviews online). I did however very recently purchased two refurbished rears from Nagengast (Poland). Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Nagengast refurb on the left; leaking one from my 458 on the right. I bought a pair and they are remove and replace. You adjust ride height to individual taste. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I'm on the hunt for some front struts and I was wondering how the process went being that these came from overseas? Did it take a long time to get? Any warranty with them and what's the process if one of the should fail? Any issues with them and how many miles have you driven on the refurbs?
A previous car was an R8 which are very prone to dampers leaking. Although I went for an alternative, many owners used Nagengast and I didn't read one bad report on them. In fact, there is a line of thought that they have refined the production process and actually may have solved the issue of them failing prematurely.
I just placed an order for a front pair from GT Auto Parts off eBay. Can't speak for the quality of the part because I haven't rec'd them but communication has been great. The link for the ones I purchased is below. There's a 20% discount from eBay until 09/16/24 so the pair was ~$267! For that price, I'll take a chance. They also have a 2 year warranty. I also have the resources and automotive background to do the work myself so I'm not worried about paying a shop to replace them and do the alignment if they go back quickly. I'll post some photos and an updated review once I receive them. Hopefully this helps if anyone else is looking. https://www.ebay.com/itm/196531569255
Unfortunately, I never got the chance. The car flooded in Helene a few weeks ago and now sits at a salvage yard pending my insurance appraisal. Due to that, I returned the struts since I don't have a car to put them on anymore...
For $250 a piece including shipping, I can't complain. The eBay China shocks were just slightly longer. At the lowest, there's a 4 finger gap. Now to see how long they last.
Hey Jem, When you say they are slightly longer, but how much? Less than 5mm? 10mm? From your photo, it looks like half the thickness of a collar? Thanks.
Yes, they do change stiffness but the difference isn't as wide as original. Normal mode is slightly less hard than stock and bumpy mode is not as soft as factory shocks.
just a few mm. For those with lifters, the lowest I could get was 4 fingers width from tyre to fender. Factory shocks I could get 2 finger width.
