The first one had lots of special parts and was a good car but needed a few things:
    1. The engine didnt have a lot of pull. Turns out the software needed to be reconfigured, there was 330 rwhp but not much power at the low end (simple software upload but it hadnt been done yet).
    2. The springs are a little too stiff for Sebring 800 lbs springs where I should have 600 lbs or so.
    3. The new car was a 3.8L so it has more power. It had been owned by a guy known for doing tons of tricked out things to squeak out that extra performance. For example it has carbon fiber doors, carbon fiber trunk, lexan windshield, levers in the cockpit for adjusting the front and rear sway bars while your driving, custom air intakes, etc.. Plus it was set up perfectly for Sebring.

I'm going to sell the first Cayman. I just got it in December and did a bunch of stuff to it (3 sets of BBS wheels and tires, cool suit system with helmet blower, aim solo DL plus 2 smarty cams, communications radio, re-did the air intake, got new graphics).

You should have John put the Solo DL and the SmartyCams in the new car, if there's not some of that already in it. You get MUCH more information from the 987.2 car than from the first car you bought.

Flew up to to Road Atlanta yesterday (first time there) and ran a 1:33 in my Cayman. Man what a track Road Atlanta is! It can bite you real easily, especially when you are unfamiliar with it. I was up there warming up for a 4 day race weekend through PCA this thurs-Sun. Cant wait to get back there tomorrow.

Yep, easy to crash when the walls are SO close. Ask me how I know... ;)

I tried doing turn 12 flat out from 10B with no lifting and ran out of road and put two tires into the grass by the starting line tower-- Chris Hall was in the car and wasnt too happy! We were way too close to ricocheting between the walls on the front stretch. I had to promise him I'd dial it back before we did another session. At least I learned the limit for that turn. Tomorrow will be scary in the rain.

So tell us -- how do you know? Let's hear the details :)

Flat from 10B through 12 would have a lot of "pucker factor" to it. I could probably carry more throttle over the crest and into 12, but there is that troll that lives under the bridge...

They warned you about the troll, right?

I remember the troll! I thought he lived in the old creek inside of T12 on what is now the Pro pit lane... ;)

Nah, let's just put it this way. In thirty plus years of racing and driving my own cars and others, I've only crashed badly, twice.

    Both times Road Atlanta...

You should have shared what you were planning on doing with Chris before you did it.

That's not cool, whether you made it or not. I can understand his displeasure.

Be careful in the wet. Rivers across the track in the braking zone for T1, at you turn in for the Esses at T4, at the bottom of the Esses, across T6 and in the low section of 10A. T12 isn't very good either.

Flat through T12 is overrated. I have seen it and measured it (and done it) but the difference between breathing going down the hill (or short shifting long) and flat is not enough gain to offset the loss (or increase in risk, as you found out).

I have seen Indy Car veteran Greg Ray, school founder Bertil Roos, endurance great (and F1 driver) Brian Redman and Vic Elford do T12 AND T1 flat, and that was before the mickey-mouse 10A-10B complex... It was fun to watch...
