According to the person that posted this picture on another site, this guy was driving erratically, weaving in and out of traffic around SF area on the 101

Hopefully FNA steps up. These cars are made to be used as a Sports car it would be unacceptable if they didn't warranty the motor.

I'm sure they will have something to say once they pull the data out of the car. If the guy (or girl) was driving like an idiot, over-revving the engine and the like, I would bet that they would be able to walk away. If it's clear that the engine failed (as I know has happened to at least one fax machine) they should take care of it, McLaren did.

An especially bad place to have this happen... Next to SFO airport!

They might think a plane went down with a cloud of smoke like that!

There were a series of bad motor components on teh F12 but I hadn't heard of bad parts in a 458 yet. Wonder what this could be, oil starvation?

Another reminder, when the oil pressure drops to zero you have less than 30 seconds to put the car in neutral and shut off the engine. Once those expensive sounds start happening it's not going to get better!

true, but it might be better to let it burn and see where the chips fall in this one. Either way, it isn't a cheap fix.

would like to know more of the story, like did it just come out of a service or ??

I found the picture on another site with a vague description from the poster. I have no other information. I doubt it's back on the road by now, I wonder if some info will pop up soon.

Perhaps a coolant hose or the head gasket blew.
