After my car has been standing for a while, the boot/trunk (for the front luggage compartment) usually won't open until the car has been run for half an hour or so. Does anybody know if this is a sign of a weak battery? That would be my guess, as my car is due for a new battery soon, but it shows no other signs of electrical issues (I use a battery tender at all times, but the car is now nearly six years old, and I think it's on the original battery).

If not that, has anybody else experienced the same issue and knows what it might be? Oddly enough a friend of mine with a 458 has also seen the same issue recently.

It could be your battery although I would expect other "odd" issues here and there (i.e. the odd light every so often that comes and goes). Regardless, six years on a battery is really long (if it is original) so that would be my guess.

I've had slight issues as well. Sometimes trunk just doesn't open. 30 sec later, it will. I just assume it's they remote key.

I had the same problem on my Speciale, what Baitschev states is the correct cure for this,,,lock and unlock your car 3 or 4 times with your key fob as normal and it resets it, the bonnet will then open!!! hey presto!!!
This I am told happens off the battery has run flat!!Mine hadn't as it was on charge but I followed the process anyway and it worked!!!
    Good luck,

Ok thanks, I will try that. I’ve certainly tried locking and unlocking a couple of times, without success, but maybe no more than that.

When the battery voltage drops below a certain point, or if you disconnect the battery and reconnect it, the trunk release, fuel door release and convertible top will not work until you reinitialize the system. This is done by locking and unlocking the car with the remote. You should only have to do it one time after reconnecting the battery with a good charge.

If it is rubbish why is the procedure highlighted in red with "Important Note" in the factory owners manual in the Luggage Compartment Lid section?
    RTFM!

Thank you so much—just had to reset the 458 Spider due to blank dashboard (pulled negative cable for 10-min to fix). Then later tried the front trunk, and nothing/-I’m thinking what now...actually WTF, for sure the lock and unlock reset the frunk
