I was at the factory yesterday and someone with authority told me that Eric Clapton's 458 was being test driven that day. Apparently he ordered a 458 with a 512 Boxer body. This is probably the cause of the rumour that he was ordering a 458 with a V12, which is incorrect. Despite our best efforts we didn't see the car, having just missed it. I must say it's quite a cool idea and I hope we get to see some pics soon.

Apart from two wheels I see no resemblance at all :D

You could put any red two seater sports car together and claim a resemblance and, it would be better than those two IMO

not sure about the relative dimensions but i assume this would be a modern interpretation of a BB body?
will be intersesting to see how it turns out.

Would be my guess too. I'm really miffed I didn't see the car! It must have been within 50m of me at some point...

Good question - Ferrari factory. They do a customisation programme too, these days, undoubtedly because of the high-profile Pininfarina jobs.

Having been a former Boxer owner, one that was lowered, I would agree with you. When I met Andrea Pininfarina, I asked him his favorite classic Ferrari design. He stated the Boxer.

The 458 is the first new Ferrari with a truly classic design.

Do you think it could work? I suspect it won't. The wheels of the 458 are too big, and there's little overhang front and back. I suspect it would look like a very bloated Dino, as the dimensions of the 458 are much larger.

It would be a great idea to have another Dino, though. Jay Kay was asked in the video on Ferrari.com what he would do if he were president of Ferrari for a day. My answer would have been easy: I would have given the order to build a lightweight V6 Ferrari. It would be specifically built to aim for lightness. It would be expensive, but a truly tactile driver's machine. Perhaps the V6 could be based on the upcoming F1 engine, even.

I don't know why it took me so long for this to sink in. But an incredible revelation from a man whose studio created some of the most stunning production Ferrari's ever.

I want to know how Leonardo Fioravanti would answer that same question, since it was actually his pen that put to paper the Daytona, Dino and Boxer among others.

I am a huge fan of the 458 and my humble opinion is that it is in the rare group of "instant classsics."

What if he has interest in doing a true one off?

I'd really love to see his work as much as hear it. And he is an artist.

Confusing post. If you are talking about a 458 Dino, then I don't believe you. Show me a picture. If you are talking about a 458 Boxer, then I do believe it can work, but would still love to see some pics finally. Dear Eric Clapton, show us your car!

@Mel - if there is a Dino coming, I would applaud it and quite possibly buy it.
