Hi. I bought a 458 Spider a few weeks ago. When I got it at the local Ferrari dealer they told me that the battery is empty after about 1 week of non-using the car. The time could be prolonged with de-activating the Alarm Systems to about 2 weeks.

I have no electric socket in my Garage, so I have a problem with charging.

    2 questions:

    1) Is this incredible short time true and normal?
    2) I drive the car only during summer. Could I totally disconnect the battery for the winter season without having problems for car electronics?

    Thanxs in advance.

The car's battery will discharge if car is left in garage, not sure
    exactly how long.

Therefore, having no socket in the garage is a potential issue as the battery
conditioner should be plugged in when the car is left stationary for more than a
few days to avoid startup glitches; maybe you can run an extension cord from
inside your house if the garage is attached to it..

As stupid as it sounds, it's not that uncommon that it goes dead quickly. 1 week is extreme but 3 is pushing it. I think they were trying to tell you to not let it drain and take it seriously.

I would also say that most Ferrari supplied batteries are complete crap. Replace it.

I personally would not remove it. It's going to upset some things in the electrics such as the clock and who knows what else is on the circuit. And, hooking it back up could cause unknown problems. Remember that a "dead" battery still has about 11 volts in it. It may not start the car but it still supplies some power to the electrics.

On the other hand, I also think the risk is low. It's just really expensive if something blows up.

Fwiw , I live in a high rise so I have no outlet either. I run the car once a week and have not had a dead battery yet . The longest is 2 weeks without running the rig. So far so good. If you can install a plug I would highly suggest it. Good luck bro. Also post pics.

You need a tender, your battery will be near dead after two weeks without alarm engagement if your battery is a few years old. The car must think(when not used)...and to think, it needs juice. What is it thinking about? I'm not sure.

If you have a lightbulb in the garage you can buy a fixture with a bulb screw in plus an outlet. The maintainer takes very little juice. If you have an electric garage door opener they are usually plugged into an outlet. Most have two plug ins. If not get a handyman or electrician to put in a plug.

For winter storage i park my summer cars at the club. I paid them a nominal amount to run electric to my two spaces as i keep the fcar and pcar plugged in all winter. No problems.

My car started after 3 weeks of being idle..no charger plugged on. However, this was when it was only a couple months old so perhaps the battery was at its peak.

Wow, so it's true. Sounds like the "italian diva effect". I started my Porsche 997/2 Turbo after 3 month without charging with no Problem.

    Buy an extension cord

(just curious, but no outlets in garage? Do you have lights? Automatic garage door opener?? ... if so you can tie in and have an outlet on the ceiling and a drop down retractable cord....)

I live in a City in a flat and in our garage are about 50 cars. There are several Astons, Porsche, Maserati, 458 Speciale...

The nearest electric socket is 20m away from my place and I cannot use an extension without a safety problem. So I have to correct myself. There are electric sockets but out of my range.

How about leaving a note on the high end cars to see if you can approach management or HOA as a group to get some electric run near you. Or how about swapping parking spots with someone who already has access. You might have to them some money or treat them for dinner, but it will cost something to run in the electric.

Or you can move someplace more receptive.

When we bought our new house i had to get permission from the city to remove and replace the 5" curb so that my 360 with a 4.5" clearance could clear. Dont think the 458 would have a problem with 6" clearance but the issue is moot now. It cost about $1200 to redo the curb.
