Ferrari's press release talked a lot about the way the interior works around the driver - if you enlarge the attached pic from Evo's mag (just a screen capture from the 458 Italia microsite video) you can see that the tunnel mounted Suspension (Soft setting) button from the Scuderia has been moved to the steering wheel (definitely more convenient - but still annoying unless you can actually get it to default/click in instead of having to switch it in and out every time you change the mannetino from Race to Sport etc).

The Mannetino looks to be the same as the Scuderia - leaving out the F430's Ice setting and adding the CT OFF setting (which leaves Stability control on while Traction control is switched off). Apparently all the stalks have disappeared - the indicator buttons are now Enzo-style on the steering wheel and there are 2 levers sticking out of the steering on the bottom left and right - one looks like a flasher for the lights (lighting control can be clearly seen dash mounted bottom left of the steering wheel) and the right hand side lever is most likely wiper related.

There is a large knob with a few buttons mounted either side of the steering presumably to control the multi-function display/radio etc.

The dash appears to only have aircon controls (and this is presumably the centre of the dash) - it clearly look like a California-style touch-screen sat-nav is present. All I can think of is that they've incorporated the sat-nav, radio etc into the multi-function display to the left of the rev-counter? Can't see any other way to do it as it doesn't look like anything can be raised . Will be interesting to see more interior shots as they become available.

Since we've already got steering wheel mounted gear change lights, don't know why they didn't go the route of the new Jag XJ and make the whole display electronic - especially since race cars have had digital rev counters (linear) for years now.

CORRECTION the line above should have read "it clearly look like a California-style touch-screen sat-nav is NOT present"

agree with the whole display electronic will be even better, but right now the design is still great, it is still a street car so rev dials is the tradition I guess...

Not sure about this, have a look at the crash-mule-pics from czechferrari.cz.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the absense of LEDs on the sterring wheel - this was introduced on the 599 as an option, then on the Scuderia as an option - and since it's available on the California I think it's highly unlikely that it wont be an option on the 458.

But I did find the pic above interesting as it clearly indicates the presence of stalk on the steering - I went back to czechferrari.cz to see if perhaps the sterring used in the crash test was perhaps an older model/from another vehicle - but you can see but the indicator cutouts either side as well as the place for the suspension soft button above the start button that it's clearly the real deal.

I think you will have both: stalks at the steering column and buttons at the steering wheel.

I'd say with the right stalk you choose the wiper speed, whereas the wiper button at the wheel is for watering the windscreen.
The left stalk is still the traditional indicator stalk, but obviously you can also use the new buttons for this as well.
Finally the left button above the one for the dampers seems to be a button for flashing the headlights.

Why no H.U.D? Looking down, even briefly, is really distracting when you're really caning it.

There are no stalks - the latest release from Ferrari confirmed it. Steering boss in the crash test was obviously 430.
