    Hi All,

I plug my iPod into the glove box, but I find the system really unreliable. Like you can't change which playlist through the system, and also it seems to lose the song list and/or connectivity every so often... and I have to unplug/plug it in again to get it back on.

It took me a while to find it, but you can change/select a playlist. You have to play the iPod, then bring up the menu with the menu button. One of the menu options -- I don't remember which, but you can easily go through each one -- will bring up the iPod playlists. I think the option is "Search for Songs" or something like that.

I have not had connectivity problems.

Are you using the latest gen of iPods with the adapter converter for the smaller input?

May depend on which ipod/iphone you are using? I have had similar problems with Audi R8, using iphone 5 with connector cable, but not with iphone 4S. Unsure why, because the connector cable should just work.

I had to use one of my old iPhone 4S because my the 458 would not recognize the iPhone 5 at all. Dealer told me they are aware of the problem and will most likely update the software to make the iPhone 5 work. I have had some problems with the system displaying the play list with the 4S. I've had to disconnect and reconnect to make it work at times. I've started using Sat Radio so much now that I almost forget about the iPhone. And then there's that miraculous sound coming from that beautiful instrument in the back window...that is really the best music in the world!

I have the latest 160 Gb iPod Classic, but it still uses the older adapter.

The F12 has streaming bluetooth audio so you don't have any of this idiotic mess anymore. I have no idea why the 458 stays with this dumb and expensive cable idea.

The best infotainment system is in my 54000 dollar Ford Expedition - 'Microsoft Sync' - so intuitive - screens can be messed with while driving at hundred miles an hour - streaming and what not...

I use my ipod touch and it works great.

Mayor i agree my audi S4 has both the cable and bluetooth streaming. My only complaint about the blue tooth streaming is that you can't change play lists or scroll through items via the nav screen. Is it different in the F12?

Does anyone know how to fix the issue of the song order going off of Random every time you start/stop the car.

It's annoying to have to select Random every single time.

In my dad's car, I just use the auxiliary jack and use the phone to play the music. In fact, I just get on youtube and look up the songs.

There's a simple rule here: the more mass-market the car, and the more recently that it was introduced or updated, the better the infotainment.

My best system is in my Prius V (oh no! I'll be drummed out of F-chat for that), as it's shared with a zillion Toyotas. Bluetooth streaming, USB connection, the works. It even displays album art. The 458, not so much, but it works just fine within its limitations, for me, at least. I've tried a few iDevices, and the iPod nano (the teeny little square one) seems to work the best, and fits on top of the stack of manuals quite nicely in the glove compartment. No connectivity issues whatsoever. Even with only 16GB of storage, lightly-compressed music gives you 60+ hours of listening. If you go the 128kb/s MP3 route, you'd get over 250 hours, but it might not sound that great. 256kb/s AAC sounds just fine give the, um, less than perfect acoustic environment and playback equipment.

Even the Atari-era system in my Corvette works well with an iDevice. Porsche's current system isn't bad, but requires an awful lot of button/screen pushes to start playing something.

All you have to do is select "search music" and it will bring up a list of ways to search - playlists, genre, etc.

Just below this is a check box for random order or original order.

Not sure what all the other intervening posts are, but my 458 works just fine. No issues.

    Hope this helps.

All works fine now, except Random resets every time the car turns on/off.

My Ipod in the glovebox works fine, the system for me works fine, searching for music etc all spot on. Don't understand why everyone is so keen on Bluetooth streaming, its rubbish quality & you have to mess about with your satellite device to change music etc.
Just get a dedicated ipod & leave in your glovebox, don't quite get why Mayor things its idiotic, expensive cable yes, but its a far better solution than streaming.
