Good day FerrariChat! I'm currently on a business trip on the small but beautiful south east asian island of Singapore. And I met a fellow colleague here that owns a Ferrari 458. We immediately started talking about our experiences with the car. We both agreed it was fantastic. Anyway to get to the point, the guy says he drives his 458 to work everyday. I was shocked. I only use mine on the weekends. I have the BMW F10 M5 for the everyday work haul. the M5 is a perfect combo of power and everyday practicality. Anyway, I don't like the idea of driving a super car everyday. I think driving a car like this a special occasion and should be kept that way so you look forward to driving the car. If you drive it everyday, the novelty will wear off. That's just my opinion. So i want to ask, do you guys drive your 458's everyday? Regards, Chris M.

    I do. Every single day.

I also do like my wife daily. ;)

Not to work, as it could be troublesome, but nearly everywhere else. Not every day, but almost.

3 months so far and 2,000 miles.

Haha I like the comment about your wife. Going back to the car, has the novelty and specialty of driving the 458 everyday wear off?

That's a lot of miles for a 3 month old 458! When mine was 3-4 months, I had only done 900+ miles. I'm going to ask the same question I asked Miguel, does the novelty and specialty wear off from driving the car often? I would like to hear other peoples perspectives. Thanks for posting!

    :)

    Now backing to the car:

Not yet and I feel I’m still far from it. I put 2000 miles on it in less than two months and it still daily excites me.

However, I think that day will comes. But it’s simple. When it arrives I’ll start to drive it less often.

Nothing works better than a miss to regain spirit again. But if you are always feeling miss you're not living.

I commute into NYC everyday so there is no way that I would use my 458 Italia as a daily driver. On the other hand, I use it almost constantly on weekends (exceptions for rain, busy parking lots and valets), and will often just take a drive. I have put about 2200 miles on the car in 5 months.

Put 2700 miles on my 458 since I took delivery at end of March 2013. Drive it on weekends primarily. One finds the miles pile up quickly on this car. Its so easy and fun to drive.

Nope, I find the more I drive it, the more special it is. I am driving it enough to become very familiar with the car; the controls feel intuitive and the more I drive it the more I like it.

The car is depreciating every day, so any day I don't use it I have paid the depreciation without getting enjoyment!

When i get mine next march i will drive it everyday without fail unless it snows. This car has been designed to use everyday with the DCT, etc. I buy my cars to use them and not to be garage queens.

I've had my 991 4S PDK coupe since march 1st this year and novelty has worn off now to be honest. However the 458 is on a different level and i can't wait

+1. This is how everyone should look at it.

Take the 430 market as an example. Not much difference in price between a 3k mile car and a 7k mile one. Might as well drive them.

Drive it! I have had my 458 for 3 1/2 months and have 2500 miles on it. On my 430, over 4 1/2 years, I put 38,000 miles on it.
I am bummed every day I don't drive it. The 430 never wore off, and the 458 won't either.
That said, there is a big difference in price between a 3k/7k mileage car, and a 38k mileage car, like $10-20K. But I knew that going in.
The car is as, or more, reliable than anything else on the road.

Totally an everyday supercar. The R8 was driven 59,500 miles in 2 years and 7 months. The 458 - had it for 1 month exactly, out of which, been out of the country for 3 weeks. Driven it 750 miles already. Everyday - except when it is snowing for the 458! I would drive it to work every day if my work was not 40 miles away, maybe 15-20 miles, but will alternate with other cars.

Novelty did not wear off on my R8...definitely do not see it happening on the 458.

These cars are to be driven...admired and put a smile on your face whenever you do...along with all the others who see this work of art and exceptional piece of engineering along the way (my opinion)

Have had mine for almost 2 years and it is just as thrilling to drive it now as it was the first day. It is that kind of visceral expereince.

i've had my car for 3 months and I drive it to work as often as I can. It's a short drive in heavy traffic : 20 km in more than 30 min but I still like it !

This pretty much sums it up. Daily drove my 911 for 4 years, my Cali for 2 years, and plan on DD my Spider everyday it's not raining. Fortunately work is a short commute, 12 miles round-trip but still includes open highway driving so I'm putting on low miles. Interestingly, after 2 years with the Cali, I still get excited about driving her home from work with the top down.

Have my 458 since December 2012 and put on it 2500+ miles.
I Wish i could drive her everyday but my job doesn't allow me to do that.

That is the way it should be. Listening to people and finding out that they tend not to drive their 458/F car in the rain...I got wondering why? - does it not handle? I found out for myself last week. On the michelin super sport tyres it handles extremely well in the rain. Have not had huge amounts of stagnant water on the road yet, but quite heavy downpour. If I decided not to drive in the rain in britain...that would be 3/4 of the year ruled out lol.

I do wonder why it is people do not like to drive them in the rain? Is it because cleaning them is a nightmare afterwards? (Although I enjoy that part too)

This is a very personal experience. If someone can buy at whim, they often find out the "novelty" wears off sooner with each purchase. Often the anticpation is more than the acquisition. You see that on this site quite often. I am now old enough to realize if you have all you want at 20, life can be a very long haul, compared to "spacing" out your "adventures", whether with women, cars, travel, what have you. The other mistake people make is confusing happiness (found in relationships) and pleasure (found in possessions). With rare exception the latter becomes "old" and less valuable (financially and emotionally), while the former often becomes better. Keeping some thngs special is a good thing imo. Best

Yes, like everything else, pleasure must be paced.

Yeah, I pretty much don't want to wash my car after it rains hehe. Nero Daytona tends to get dirty after a rain so that's why I ordered Grigio Titanio for my Spider, so I could drive rain or drive. My Meteor Grey 911 stayed clean so I drove her in the rain all the time. It's sunny 80-90% of the time around here so no big deal driving the BMW 5-series on rainy days.

I had my California detailed on June 15th and she still looks clean despite driving her 4-5 times a week since then with no wash. Collecting some dust on the trunk though will warrant a cleaning soon.

Use it as often as you can. You will appreciate it more. You will also appreciate your other vehicles more too.

it is good high rpm kind of car that you can stay in 2nd gear in the parking lot to show off the sound. ;)
