I was reading different sources and...compared to other Ferraris produced (not including Enzo obviously), how does 458 Italia stand?

Some went as far as to claim that it is a fraction above Scuderia? Some say it is slightly weaker than Scuderia, but far stronger than Scaglietti, and others. What is the truth?

Claims on the internet go to extremes on the both ends regarding the engine, similar situation as it is with the comparison of the "looks"...but this cannot be biased because engine is not like the "looks" which are dependant on the observer and individuals...enlighten me someone please...

    Cheers,
    Joshua

Not to sure what you are asking but the 458 has 560 bhp, the Scud has just over 500bhp, the 599 had 611bhp and the Enzo has 650 bhp.

I do not think you can really compare a 4.5 liter V8 to a 6.0 liter V12. I think the 458's engine is far more advanced due to its direct fuel injection and incredible 124.9 (562 hp / 4.499 liters) hp per liter ratio. I can't think off hand of any naturally-aspirated Ferrari engine ever that has produced that much hp per liter.

hp its one thing..but in daily use the torque is very important. And the 458 has lots of torque.Especialy for a normal aspirated engine, and if you think that it revs higher than most of the engines...and has 7 gears...and its much lighter than 612 and 599...

It may have torque but a peak of 6500rpm does make me wonder a bit about the "feel" of the engine, yes the 430 had better torque than the 360 but one still needed to be above 5000rpm to make decent progress, having said that the Scud had a better feel low down the rev range.

Of course with 7 speeds one can be sure the gear ratio are pretty short to create awesome acceleration.

the 458 should have have solid midrange punch despite the high peak torque rpm...they quoted 'over 300lb ft' at 3500 rpm. we will know for sure when people have driven it..
